Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica
The Apollo Chapter Isabel la Católica
of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica observed its initiation
ceremony Tuesday, May 6, 2003. Susann Davis, Professor of
Spanish at Western Kentucky University was guest speaker.
Lindsey Hamilton played and sang "Las Mañanitas"
and accompanied the group in singing "De colores".
As John-Patrick Clark, president, and Ahren Horlander, secretary,
read the initiation ritual, new inititates lit candles that
were symbolic of a life inspired by high ideals. Diedre Gentry
provided the cakes, cookies and punch that were enjoyed by
the parents and students.
The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, Spanish Honor Society,
is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish
and Portuguese. Student members must maintain a 3.0 GPA in
Spanish and overall, be a second semester sophomore or higher,
and be of upstanding character to be considered for membership.
Members are also required to complete a minimum of 3 hours
of multicultural community service or language tutoring during
each year of membership. The group is sponsored by Mrs. Ginger
Robinson. Officers are: John-Patrick Clark, president; Katrina
Boone and Michael Boone, vice-presidents; Ahren Horlander,
secretary; Diedre Gentry and Landon Basham, activities directors;
Mitchell Jones, historian.
