What
can Kentucky do to educate your children about substance
abuse and help prevent them from taking that path?
Governor Fletcher's Statewide Drug Control Assessment Summit
wants to hear from you about these important issues.
Please take the opportunity to talk with panels of experts
in substance abuse prevention-education, treatment and enforcement
about drugs and your children at a regional public input
forum that will be held in your area Tuesday, March 30. The
meeting will be from I to 5 p.m. at the Executive Inn Rivermont
in Owensboro.
The Statewide Drug Control Policy Assessment Summit is Governor
Fletcher's initiative for state, local and federal officials
who specialize in drug prevention-education, treatment and
enforcement to conduct a 20-week, comprehensive evaluation
of substance abuse in Kentucky.
The assessment, which is headed by Lt. Governor Stephen
B. Pence, is the first in the Commonwealth to bring together
officials from each area that addresses drug use - prevention-education,
treatment and enforcement - to collaboratively examine the
state's substance abuse issues. The assessment covers illegal
drugs and inappropriate prescriptions as well as alcohol
and tobacco use.
Public input is an important component of the assessment.
The assessment team is receiving public input through regional
forums that are being held around the state and through questionnaires,
which you are encouraged to complete online at www.kydrugsummit.ky.gov. Hard
copies of the questionnaire will be available at the public
input meeting. If you cannot attend the input meeting and
would like a hard copy of the questionnaire mailed to you,
please call (859) 622-1328.
At the conclusion of the assessment, the Summit members
will offer recommendations to the Governor on establishing
Kentucky's first statewide drug-control policy.
