Hello
Freshman Parents,
We have approached the mid point of the semester at
an amazingly rapid pace. It seems these days have just
flown past. I hope this note finds things going smoothly
for your student. If there is anything I canhelp them
with, please e-mail or call me. I really need you to
help explain to your child how credits are earned for
graduation. We will be going over this during our October
CAP meeting and need you to follow up with discussion
about credits and diploma level's. We are on a three/six
week's semester. These 3 six weeks are then averaged
along with a semester final for the semester grade.
This becomes the grade/half credit that is placed on
the transcript. The required classes for ninth graders
are English, Science, Algebra I, and Health/PE. If students
don't average a 65 for each half credit, they will be
required to make it up in Summer School. Students who
average a 94 for the three six weeks can use up to FOUR
exemptions for final exams. This means NO final for
up to four classes possible. A great motivator for "A"
averages. When you compare the first report card with
the current second six weeks averages, it should give
you a good indication of current semester averages.
Remember that grades on line are current as teachers
input the information. Some teachers are doing this
daily while others may be slower because of content
areas/projects, ECT. If you were not aware, grades can
be assessable on the Internet by going to our home page
and following a few simple steps. You will need to contact
the guidance office for their pin number.
During the November CAP meeting, we will be going over
the KEES scholarship and how it works. This is a wonderful
tool to help students with higher education. It's based
on a yearly gpa/grade. I will be going over this information
through out the year.
Please tell your friends to sign up on our school home
page to be added to this e-mail list serve (If you experience
difficulties signing on to the 9th grade list serve,
please e-mail our school secretary, bburton@daviess.k12.ky.us
<mailto:bburton@daviess.k12.ky.us> and she will
see that your name is added). Also it may be of benefit
for you to read senior information under guidance office
resources. This will let you know what to be expecting
in the coming years.
