Junior News-1/12/04

  1. Owensboro Youth Summit is taking place on 3/5/04. If you are interested, have above a 2.5 gpa, great attendance, and an interest in leadership/involvement, sign up on Mr. Johnson's door by 1/16/04.
  2. January 31-Campbellsville University Junior Preview Day. See me for details.
  3. Do your parents receive service from KENERGY? If so, you are eligible to compete for a trip to Washington, D.C. Stay in tune for more details.
  4. UK is hosting a day for females interested in Engineering fields. If you are interested in attending a seminar in Lexington, let Mr. Johnson know today.
  5. Washington University in St. Louis is hosting a Summer Scholars Program, see me for details.
  6. Holocaust Essay Contest. Tremendous prizes and rewards!
  7. Kentucky Boys State-Junior male, that is interested in government-June 6-11 at Morehead State University.
  8. Interested in becoming a pilot, attend Southern Illinois University Aviation Summer Camp.
  9. Interest in art? Attend Savannah College of Art and Design Summer Programs.
  10. Murray State offers a Commonwealth Honors Academy (free during the summer)-if you have a 3.5 gpa, you get 3 weeks free, plus 6 hours of credit towards MSU.
  11. Are you potentially a first generation college student and have at least a 2.75 gpa? If so, you can spend 6 weeks this summer for free and earn credit at St. Louis University.
  12. Interested in Pre-law, Pre-med, or Criminalistics? Xavier University has a Jump Start Program this summer.
  13. The following are ACT dates: April 3 and June 12. If you go out of town during Spring Break, the April 3 rd date may be a problem. Pick up a packet in the Guidance Office window. Registration deadlines are over a month before the test.
  14. The following are SAT dates: March 27, May 1 and June 5. If you took the PSAT and your scores indicate that you may fare better on the SAT, then you may want to take this. Most schools will accept an ACT or SAT score. If you would like to compare your scores, come by the guidance office.
  15. If you ever see a school booth or military branch in front of the guidance office during lunch, don't hesitate to talk with them about their institution. They are a great resource.
  16. If you ever stop by the guidance office and need to see me, finding that I am not there, just give Ms. Tong your name and she will pass this along so that I can catch up with you.
  17. We're off to a new start this semester-Make the most of it!
