SENIOR Guidance News:
8/18/03
We’re back….
I hope that each of you got a class schedule that you
like! Senior year is full of lots to do, responsibilities
to do, and goals to set, moving to achieve when you
graduate in May 2004! I hope that I can be of service
this school year to each of you and know that all senior
letters from me will also be available on the AHS website
www.ahs.dcps.org
The annual Senior Parent
meeting will be on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m.
in the AHS auditorium. Your parent(s) must call the
guidance office (852-7100) and give your name to Ms.
Kristi Tong. Packets will be available with your information
& other important senior year issues will be discussed.
Please encourage them to attend & you come as
well!
Several things to tell
you so here goes….
- 38% of all seniors have taken the
ACT college entrance test at least once; of
these 30% have an ACT score of 19 or higher (good
place to start/be) and 12% have an ACT score of 25
(out of 36) or higher!
- 27% of all seniors are attending
Tech College OR Community College. That’s good
news because they are getting a head start on their
career/college credit hours.
- 44% of all seniors have a cumulative
3.0 GPA or higher----good deal!
- 14% of all seniors attended DCPS
summer school to make up a deficiency class &
currently 10% have at least one make-up ˝ credit in
their class schedule. Reminder: The
Class of 2004 students must pass all required credits
& have at least 26 total credits to participate
in graduation ceremonies.
Senior Year Initiatives
to act on----
- Get registered to received
scholarship information on your home email acct. -

- Any scholarship information
found in the SR letters can be obtained in the guidance
office. Stop by to get the applications that interest
you!
- Complete the letter of recommendation
(LOR) form BEFORE requesting one from me &/or
a teacher. Doing so gives us needed information about
you in order to write a LOR for your scholarship application
OR college admission applications. Give us at
least a week to get the LOR done!
- Seniors are allowed one college
visit day. You must pre-arranged this with Mr. Broughton’s
office before going to visit.
- Information for you will be visible
on the SR bulletin board (next to Ms. Jerome (Ray)
Rm 101- check it out!
- Seniors interested in playing college-level
sports must complete the NCAA Clearinghouse form
available from Mr. Johnson in guidance ASAP. Cost
is $30.
- School is out for Fall break
on Thursday, 10/9 & Friday, 10/10. Great time
to plan a college visit. Email or call the campus
to set up a visitation date.
- There are numerous resources available
in our guidance library. Feel free to check them
out. Also remember to locate colleges of interest
on the world wide web to inquire about.
