SENIOR GUIDANCE NEWS: Letter #10 3/8/04
Reminders:
- Put your Class of 2004 song title suggestions in
the blue box in the guidance office window before
March 12 if you are have a song that you think would
represent your senior class!
- The next CAP group will be packed full of things
to get done in the 30-min. timeframe. Attend
ready to do your part..graduation cap/gown info.,
etc..
- John B. & Brownie Young Memorial Fund Scholarship
application is due to Ms. Kreke by Tuesday,
March 16 . Remember ,
your parent(s) must complete the FAFSA in order
for you to be considered for this free money opportunity!
- Our
Spring semester is ½ over
this week
- Owensboro Community & Technical
College will be @ AHS during lunch on
Tuesday, March 9 . Please talk with the college
representative in front of guidance this week.
- Seniors
with the most "spirit" & very
noticeable (blue skin) recently have been Ryan
Ashby, Matt Bayles, Troy Best, Jarod Chapman,
and Ben Evans. Awesome enthusiasm shown at our
basketball games!! Keep up the good work as we
enter the Regional Basketball Tournament this
week at Apollo.. GO EAGLES!!

singing talent on Eagle News Live!

Community College will
be hosting VIP (visit in person) Days on Friday,
March 5 @ 2 p.m. & Friday,
April 2 @ 2 p.m. (that's 1 p.m. Owensboro time).

Weekend is 3/19 & 3/20
OR 3/26 & 3/27. If you have any questions about
the criteria to participate in this event, see
Ms. Kreke ASAP.
- The next ACT test
is April 3 (late registration ends on 3/12, cost
$42); and the last ACT is June 12 (deadline is
May 7, cost $26); registration packets in guidance
office window OR register online at www.act.org (with
a debt/credit card).
Scholarship Opportunities :
55. Daviess County Bar Association
Scholarship Award- New! Scholarship in the amount
of $1,500 awarded to a high school senior. It is
an opportunity for our students to learn about our legal
system and the important role it plays in our democracy. The
essay for this year is entitled: "The
Right to a Trial by Jury...a Key to Our Democracy" (500
words or less). The committee will consider
factors such as academic achievement, extracurricular
activity and accomplishments, standardized test scores,
transcripts of course work and grades, public service
to the community, etc. More information is available
in the Guidance Office. All required materials
must be submitted to the DCBA Scholarship Committee no
later that Thursday, April 1, 2004.
56. Owensboro Community & Technical
College Scholarships- over 15 scholarships offered through
OCC campus. Stop by guidance & get an application
and brochure describing scholarships available. Deadline
is Thursday, April 1, 2004 for scholarships & admission!
57. Ivy Tech State College Scholarship
Application- If you plan to attend Ivy Tech State College,
one application will allow you to apply for the following
scholarships: Chancellor's Scholarship
Donald L. Duell Memorial Scholarship
Future's Unlimited Scholarship
POTT Foundation Technology Scholarship
TJ MAXX Scholarship
Toyota Industrial Scholarship GPA requirements vary with each scholarship. Drop
by Guidance to pick up an application. Application must be submitted
no later than Thursday, April 1, 2004.
58. Tri-State Payroll Professionals
Scholarship- New! Scholarship in the amount of
$500 to be used for tuition, books or fees. Senior
must have a GPA of 2.0 or above, letter of acceptance
from a college, university, trade or technical school;
must have attended AHS for the entire 2003-2004 school
year. Students will need two letters of recommendation;
a paragraph describing your future plans in regard to
education and career. Applications are available
in the Guidance Office. Application must be
completed and returned to Tri-State Payroll Professionals
no later than Saturday, April 10, 2004.
59. Kentucky Amvets Auxiliary Scholarship-
available in the State of Kentucky for a high school
student who have been accepted into college. A
student's eligibility for these scholarships shall be
based on submission of a completed application, a copy
of his/her high school transcript, plus a copy of a recent
photograph. All information must be mailed to Carol
Fowler, Scholar-ship Chairman, 8913 Lantana Drive, Louisville,
KY. 40229. The deadline for submitted
application and all required attachments will be Monday,
April 12, 2004.
60 . Lexington Community College Scholarship-
New! For all those planning to go to Lexington Community
College - The Lexington Community College Scholarship
Applications are now available in the Guidance Office. Preference
will be given to freshmen with an ACT composite score
of 22 or higher. Students should complete the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to
March 15, 2004 for priority consideration of grants and
to allow processing time for scholarship consideration. Application
deadline is Thursday, April 15, 2004.
61 . Marine Corps League Detachment
#804 Scholarship - Applicants must have
a parent or grandparent who served in the U.S. Marine
Corps. A step-parent will also qualify. This
$500 scholarship may be used for any post-secondary
program. Application and essay must be returned
to Ms. Rodney no later than Friday, April 16, 2004.
62 . Daviess County Democratic Woman's
Club - scholarship in t he amount of $500 to be used
any way you wish or need. Criteria: Must
be a registered Democrat or submit notarized statement
that applicant will do so at voting age; Both parents
must be registered Democrats; Student must have a 3.0
GPA. Applications are available in the Guidance
Office. Deadline for submission to the Daviess
County Democratic Woman's Club is Friday, April 16, 2004.
63 . Owensboro Business & Professional
Women's Organization - Overton Scholarship- t he amount
of each scholarship to be awarded will be announced at
a later date. In the past, the Overton Scholarships
were in the range from $350 to $1,000. These are
awarded to young women pursuing undergraduate or graduate
studies. FAFSA form must be completed . Applicant
must provide three (3) letters of recommendation from
non-relatives. One of the three recommendations
must be academic. Application must be mailed
with all required information to the Overton Scholarship
Committee and postmarked NO LATER than Friday, April
16, 2004 .
