SENIOR GUIDANCE NEWS : Letter #11 3/23/04

Reminders:

GRADUATION FOR THE CLASS OF 2004 IS FRIDAY, May 21 st at 6:30 p.m.

  • Graduation cap & gowns orders taken this week (Monday & Tuesday); cost $24.95. See Ms. Kreke if any questions..

  • Grading period ends , Thursday, April 1, continue to do well with your academics. KEES $ & GPA/Rank for college plans!!

  • Less than 40 days of school left this school year.. wow , I hope you are continuing to get ready for "life after high school" plans.

  • Seniors are allowed one college visit day (excused) provided you contact AHS attendance office at least 24 hours before you go on the campus visit for completion of the paperwork.

  • SR Profile sheets are continuing to be collected by Ahren Horlander for Mr. Barrett's class. The information will be put on the AHS Homepage. Complete this sheet & return to guidance office ASAP.

  • Owensboro Community College summer bulletin of course offerings will be available after spring break in the guidance office.

  • AHS Honors Night will be on May 11. It's important that you bring any notification of moneys/scholarships from colleges, etc. to guidance so we can get your name and information for this program.

  • The next ACT test is April 3 (late registration ends on 3/12, cost $42); and the last ACT is June 12 (deadline is May 7, cost $26); registration packets in guidance office window OR register online at www.act.org (with a debt/credit card).

  • April 19-April 30, Senior CATS weeks: Daily you are with your senior classmates during 1 st block OR 1 st &2 nd blocks; Overview plans are available in guidance office. Yes , all seniors are expected to participate in SR CATS plans, except those attending the Tech College in the mornings ( A.M. Tech College seniors will take the SR CATS Test on 4/21 with all seniors ), Tech college students will attend Tech College daily.

*On Tuesday, 4/20 , there will be a Senior Assembly in the gym during first block. You will get your senior activities information then for the rest of your senior year!!! BE THERE!!

*Tile painting craft , sponsored by Creative RU will occur on 4/23. If interested in painting a tile, you must pay your $5.00 by Wednesday, March 31 in the guidance office to get your name on the roster to do this.

* On Wednesday, 4/28 , seniors will participate in Career Awareness Day with 25+ community speakers. During 3/17 CAP, you picked your four speakers to attend for 35 min sessions each. This exciting opportunity is for you to hear from professionals who are doing what he/she enjoy doing in their pathway to success in life/career. And hopefully encourage you to start your engines for plans for your success in your future!

Scholarship Opportunities:

*** File your FAFSA with your parent(s) ASAP ..there's still time to get this done! Click on www.fafsa.ed.gov to complete this process (using the 2003 tax returns filed).

#64 Girls Inc. Inspiration Scholarship- Fred J. Schmidt Award- offers a $1,000 scholarship; criteria- financial need, interview, essay, GPA, Co-curricular, and participation in Girls Incorporated. Deadline for completed application to Ms. Kreke is Wednesday, March 31.

#65 Tim McEnroe Memorial Scholarship Fund- offers $1,800 award; Criteria: seniors planning to attend Murray State University fall 2004; apply even if you have already applied for this scholarship through MSU scholarship application process. Deadline is Thursday, April 1, 2004 (postmarked).

#66 PTSO Scholarship- offered to seniors who have parent(s) that are PTSO members. To inquire about PTSO membership, stop by the guidance office & ask Ms. Tong if your parent(s) are members! Students may apply as well as be nominated by your teacher(s). Deadline is Monday, April 12 (1 st day back from Spring break).
