SENIOR GUIDANCE NEWS: Letter

Commonwealth Accountability Testing System (CATS)
weeks are here!! Every year all schools in the state
of KY participate in this state-mandated assessment.
The middle schools & elementary schools will be taking
theirs in May. AHS will be in CATS zone from 4/19-4/30.
Here's a break down of where you are to report for
each day (at 8:15 a.m.): bring pencils
- Monday, 4/19 (white day) go to the gym, then
to testing rooms daily
- Tuesday, 4/20 (blue day) go to the gym (senior
assembly)
- Wednesday, 4/21 go to your CATS testing rooms (rosters
posted in guidance office window).
- Thursday, 4/22 go to the auditorium for
presentation, Making College Count
- Friday, 4/23 go to one of these
five areas : (grouped by alphabet)
gym upstairs, north side
(Alexander- Craig)
gym floor (Creamer-Hawthorne)
gym
upstairs, south side (Hayden-Midkiff)
chorus
room (Miller-Schaeffer)
band room (Schwartz-Zimmerman)
** On Tuesday, 4/20 & Thursday,
4/22 during the assemblies, we will taking donations
for the Logan Satterly Memorial Scholarship Fund .
Week 2:
- Monday, 4/26 (blue day) attend regular class
schedule
- Tuesday, 4/27 (white day) go to first block
activity (rosters & locations posted
on guidance office window)
- Wednesday, 4/28 report to the
commons area , orange sheet given
to you of your career awareness day schedule (speakers).
You will attend four different speakers in C section
(your orange sheet has room #'s & times). Please
follow your career speaker schedule (orange sheet)!
- Thursday, 4/29 report to the auditorium for
presentation
- Friday, 4/30 attend regular class schedule
Reminders:
- The AHS graduation announcements will
be available on Friday, 4/23 during your lunch. Pick
them up in front of the attendance office.
- AHS Honors/Awards Night is May 11. This is a special
night to honor seniors and their accomplishments. Continue
to bring award letters (from colleges, scholarships,
etc.) to guidance to get this
information in our program & for PA announcements!
- The end of the year SENIOR activities information
(handout) will be given out at the 4/20 assembly in
gym. AM Tech College/Higher Ed seniors can get theirs
from guidance office upon returning from Tech College.
- You will be completing the Senior Transition
Survey on 4/21 after your CATS test. Please
complete it thoroughly , contact email, address,
phone; also, your final transcript will
be sent to the college/ post-secondary institution
that you list (page 2).
- AHS SR/Jr Prom, Saturday, May 1--- what an exciting
night for each of you---enjoy!! J J My
senior son attended prom 4/17 at DCHS and he looked
sooo sharp, handsome, grown up..
- Advanced Placement (AP) exams begin on Tuesday,
May 4. Please check the AP schedule in the guidance
office window & report to the exam location 15
mins. before the AP test time (on AP schedule).
Scholarship Opportunities:
#67 Autism Society of Western KY "Focus
on Abilities" Scholarship - offers a $500 award; criteria:
those with autism, and their family members, along with
students pursuing a degree with emphasis on serving the
needs of those with autism; must type a one page essay,
and two letters of reference (Kreke can get you one)! Deadline
for application (postmarked) is Friday, April 23. Act
now, don't delay!
#68 DCEA Scholarship - If your
parent is a current member of Daviess County
Education Association and has been a member for four
years prior to your graduation and you have a grade
point average of 2.5 average or above, apply for this
scholarship now! Applications must be returned
to Dwayne Bishop at College View Middle School no later
than Friday, April 23, 2004.
#69 Bluegrass Indo-American Civic Society
Scholarship - offers one $1,000 awards; must have secured
an admission to a recognized Engineering Program. Deadline
(postmarked) is Thursday, April 22.
#70 AHS Eagle High Trust Scholarship-
offers a $500 award; criteria: must be planning to major
in Business. Deadline is Friday, April 30 to Mr.
Mark Gray, rm 409.
#71 KHEAA Teacher Scholarship - The
Teacher Scholarship Program is administered by the Kentucky
Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) and provides
financial assistance in the form of a conversion scholarship/loan
to highly qualified, financially needy Kentucky students
who are pursuing initial teacher certification at participating
institutions. Applications are available in the
Guidance Office. Your FAFSA need analysis data
and scholarship application must be received by KHEAA's
Teacher Scholarship Program by Saturday, May 1, 2004.
#72 Making It Count Scholarship - offers
five $1,000 awards to seniors who can exhibit scholastic
excellence based on the "Winning Characteristics" that
will be discussed in the program at AHS on Thurday, 4/22
in the auditorium (1 st block). You must be planning
to attend a post-secondary educational setting. Download

#73 Pilot Club of Owensboro Scholarship
- offers a $800 award; must be a senior planning on attending
Owensboro Community College. Complete application
and mail to Ms. Massey by Sunday, 4/25/04 (address on
application) to be considered for this scholarship.
