SENIOR GUIDANCE NEWS: Letter #4

I am very, very happy/proud/elated
as I continue to see you as a senior at AHS making smart
choices in decisions that are observable to me. You
are role models to our underclassmen and I consistently
see that you’re intentionally becoming adults
in your behavior, attitudes, and friendly/helpful ways.
Thank you so much Class of 2004 & let me continue
to say, “good job”, “100% effort”,
and it’s a privilege to work with you as best
I can and in any way that I am able to-----just let
me know!
By now (less than six weeks remaining this semester),
you should have:
· Taken the ACT/SAT I at least one time, unless
you are in Algebra II class. Those in Alg. II class,
please take the ACT in Feb. &/or April IF you have
not taken it at all yet! Register online at www.act.org
OR registration packet is in guidance office window;
cost is $26. Very important to do for college entrance
&/or KEES bonus $ with a score of 15 or higher.
· Kept up with your daily grades in all of your
classes, and passing especially the required classes
needed to graduate with your friends in May 2004!
· Made a campus/college visit to a university
of your interest for Fall 2004 entering as a freshman
college student. Websites to arraign visits are located
in guidance on counter.
· Completing college application(s) & getting
it/them mailed by Dec. 1st along with the usual application
fee required (especially for private colleges &/or
out of state universities).
· Continue working on your senior portfolio (required
by the state department to complete in order to graduate
from a KY high school) and get it completed in a timely
manner in working with your English teacher. J J J J
· Applying for scholarships from: 1) www.fastweb.com,
2) senior letters, &/or
3) going through the scholarship books (purchased this
semester) located in the
AHS guidance library---do so during your elective/study
hall zone.
· Met with Ms. Kreke at least once to assist/help
you with plans for after high school success!
· Taken your senior pictures with Lifetouch for
the yearbook. Make-up pics are Sat. 11/8 but you must
call toll free 1-888 to set up an appointment BEFORE
this Sat. (11/8).
CAP group meets on Tuesday,
11/11 at 11:05 a.m. You will be getting your report
cards and then coming to the auditorium to meet with
me.

Career Information Day on Saturday, Nov. 15 for students
interested in pursuing a career in the sciences, health
science &/or engineering.

Scholarship Opportunities:
16. Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarship Program-
awards scholarships in the amount of $1,200; must complete
an application, provide transcript & parent(s) most
recent filed tax form. Application is available at the
Eastland Mall Marketplace (customer information center),
Evansville. Deadline is Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at the mall.
17. Toyota Motor Manufacturing- Youth for Understanding
International Exchange (YFU)- opportunity to go abroad
for six weeks- looking for student between ages of 15-18.

18. U.S. Bank Internet Scholarship Program- awards up
to 30 $1,000 scholarships; apply online at www.usbank.com/studentbanking
19. Burger King Scholars- over 2,000 scholarships of $1,000
each awarded; visit online at www.bkscholars.scholarshipamerica.org

by Wednesday, Dec. 10.
20. AXA Achievement Scholarship- awards $10,000 national
scholarships to a student in each state, $15,000 additional
scholarships to 10 national recipients. Criteria: senior
well-rounded, committed to making a difference and have
demonstrated achievement—at a job, sport, or co-curricular
activity. Winners are people who will succeed in life
because he/she possesses an extra element of grit &
determination. Applicant appraisal must be completed by
an unrelated adult professional who is familiar with your

Deadline is Monday, Dec. 15.
21. University of KY Academic Scholarships- must have
been accepted to UK; factors considered in the evaluation
of scholarship applications include leadership experience,
class rank, test scores, essay, co-curricular activities,
work experience, awards & recognition, and community
service. Must have a GPA of 3.3 and ACT of 28 or higher
