Hello Sophomore Parent(s):
Several times a year, all sophomores will
meet in a small group (CAP Group) to discuss grades, testing
opportunities, and other pertinent information. The first
CAP group was used for me to access information from the
sophomores through the use of a survey. From this survey,
I realized that many sophomores did not understand what
a high school transcript is, how KEES monies works, and
the various diploma levels that Apollo has to offer. From
their input, I will organize informational sessions that
our CAP teachers will deliver to the students during the
regularly scheduled meeting that we have once a month.
During the second CAP meeting, all sophomores
received a copy of their high school transcript. The CAP
teachers were instructed to review the three types of
diplomas that the individual student elects to strive
for. This information was very important to have thoroughly
explained to them because after meeting with over 50 sophomores
individually, I realize that several students did not
have a clue what each diploma required. Every sophomore
should understand the diploma levels, but if there are
questions, please feel free to contact me. In the near
future, the CAP teacher will be giving out the CTBS scores
and they will be allowed to bring them home. This will
be during the second semester CAP meeting.
All sophomores took the PLAN test on October
30 at no cost to them. The PLAN test is similar to the
American College Test (ACT) that juniors and seniors take
to meet college entrance requirements. The students also
filled out a career interest inventory that is similar
to the ones that college students complete when reviewing
possible careers. Once I get the information back, I will
explain this to the sophomores during a specific class.
Our district provided this service and I am extremely
grateful to them. I will use this information throughout
their futures years as a reference to helping them prepare
for the ACT or SAT.
REPORT CARD will be given to the students
on November 11. Apollo provides the Extended School Service
to a student that would like free tutoring. It is offered
in the morning and afternoon to all students in the library.
Call me if you have questions regarding this service.
I have enjoyed working with the sophomores
that have made appointments with me. Encourage your son/daughter
to make an appointment so I can get to know them and review
whatever questions they may have.
Thank you for your support and I look forward
to meeting you.
