The second phase of high school English will continue
to give sophomores a strong foundation in English. Emphasis
will be placed on vocabulary development, the mechanics
of writing, oral communication, and standard English
usage. The literature phase of the class will center
around the characteristics of the various general short
stories, novels, drama, poetry, biography, and nonfiction.
JOURNALISM III Accel. Semesters 2

Prerequisite: Journalism I /Journalism II Journalism
II shall require recommendation of the Journalism I
teacher. The course shall be an extension of Journalism
I wherein the students assume the primary responsibility
of publishing the school newspaper. Students shall put
into practice the basic elementary skills of journalism
such as writing news, feature articles and editorials,
as well as layout and composition of the school paper.
The practical application of newspaper journalism including
writing, photography, layout, pasteup, advertising sales
and design, and staff and business organization shall
be put into practice. Familiarity with the computer
software program known as “Desktop Publishing”
may also be considered as a satisfactory prerequisite
at the discretion of the teacher.
Film and Cinematography Accel Semesters 2
English Credits 1
This course offers a chronological survey of development
of film and cinema. In the course, films from different
periods of history in the United States, as well as
the icons that represent those periods, will be studied
with the intention of drawing a connection between values
on the screen and values in the real world. This course
provides instruction in observation, research, and writing
skills to create successful communication of detailed
analysis.
