Foreign Language Credits 1
Prerequisite: grade of 85% B- or better in an English
or Math class Spanish 1 is an introduction to the culture
and language of Hispanic people. The emphasis of this
class is on the development of basic language skills
including speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Students learn to speak about common events and situations.
Group, pair, and individual projects and presentations
encourage students to use the language in a casual setting.
The varied cultures of Spanish-speaking people are explored
through readings and activities.
SPANISH II Accel. Semesters 2
Foreign Language Credits 1
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Spanish I. Spanish
2 develops and expands the basic skills presented in
Spanish I. Skills are strengthened through reading,
speaking, listening, and writing in Spanish. Emphasis
is placed on communication through the use of original
skits, compositions, and dialogues. Active daily classroom
participation in speaking and listening in pair and
group activities provides students with the experiences
to speak with native speakers in the community and in
the world.
Spanish 2 Pre-IB Honors Semesters 2
Foreign Language Credits 1
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Spanish I with
a B average or its equivalent and teacher recommendation.
The Pre-IB curriculum begins with this level two class,
primarily for freshmen who have completed Spanish I
in middle school. Spanish 2 develops and expands the
basic skills presented in Spanish 1. Skills are strengthened
through reading, speaking, listening, and writing in
Spanish. Emphasis is placed on communication through
the use of original skits, compositions, and dialogues.
Active daily classroom participation in speaking and
listening in pair and group activities provides students
with the experiences to speak at a basic level with
native speakers in the community and in the world. The
Pre-IB Curriculum will include more reading, a grammatical
foundation, and more communicative projects in order
to prepare students for the IB curriculum.
