French II Pre-IB Honors Semesters 2
Foreign Language Credits 1
The Pre-IB curriculum begins with this level 2 class, primarily for freshmen who have completed French 1 in middle school. Active communication is emphasized to prepare for the IB program. Speaking and listening exercises from culturally authentic material will help the students to improve the quality of their communicative abilities. More reading and writing will be involved as well as a thorough approach to grammar as prescribed by the IB program.

FRENCH II Accel. Semesters 2

Prerequisite: Successful completion of French 1 Students will continue to develop the basic skills of speaking, writing, listening and reading. Communication is emphasized in partner and group activities carried out in French. The culture of the many French speaking countries is expanded.

FRENCH I Accel. Semesters 2

Prerequisite: grade of C or better in last English class French 1 is an introduction to the culture and language of the Francophone people. Students will develop basic French language skills such as speaking, listening, reading and writing while learning about the culture of the countries where French is spoken.

FRENCH III Pre IB/Honors Honors Semesters 2

Prerequisite: Successful completion of French 2 Accelerated with a minimum average of 85% B or French 2 Pre-IB with a minimum average of C or teacher recommendation. French 3 develops all language skills beyond the basic level. Students will read short stories, current articles from Francophone magazines and newspapers which will expand their vocabulary and grammatical accuracy. Communication is emphasized as well as further study of the cultures of the many French speaking countries. The Pre-IB Curriculum will include more reading, a strong grammatical component, and communicative projects in order to prepare students for the IB curriculum in levels 4 and 5.

FRENCH IV AP/IB AP/IB Semesters 2

Prerequisite: Successful completion of French 3 Pre-IB with a C or its equivalent and recommendation of French teacher. French 4 begins to fine tune the communication skills in French. A comprehensive review of grammar will lead to more accurate speaking and writing of the language. Study of current events, topics of student interest, French as well as Francophone literature will be the focus. Students will prepare for the AP exam by participating in sample tests. Students will be continuously preparing for the IB oral tests and papers.

GERMAN I Accel. Semesters 2

**Any student signing up for first year of a foreign language must have a grade of "C" or better in his/her last English class. The elementary course of German begins work on basic conversational skills, vocabulary building, and basic grammar. Cultural aspects are included through reading passages and supplementary materials.

GERMAN III Honors Semesters 2
Foreign Language Credits 1
Basic grammar studies continue in this advanced level. In the second semester, conversation, listening, and translation skills are emphasized.
