This course continues the history of Airpower, bringing
the student up-to-date with current military operations.
Emphasis is on the role of the U.S. Air Force and air
power in shaping the history of the United States. The
Leadership education portion focuses on communication,
and the dynamics of human behavior.
Aerospace Science

This is a science course that teaches “Science
of Flight” and “ The Exploration of Space.”
Subjects range from the principles of flight, aircraft
propulsion systems, aircraft and spacecraft, fundamentals
of rocketry, principles underlying space travel, and
various aspects of space exploration. The material covered
is the most technical of the Aerospace Science courses.
Rocketry and spacecraft portions cover rocket propulsion,
guidance, control, and orbits. The space travel section
further explores the role of space in national security.
In the Leadership portion of this class, third year
students begin to assume cadet leadership roles as Cadet
Officers and NCOs.
AEROSPACE SCIENCE

Aerospace Science Credits 1
This course is limited to seven seniors selected by
the Aerospace Science Instructors. This “Senior
Staff” manages the activities of the entire Cadet
Corps. This hands-on experience affords these cadets
the opportunity to put the theories of previous leadership
courses into practice. All the planning, organizing,
coordinating, directing, controlling, and decision-making
will be done by the cadets. They practice their communication,
decision-making, personal interaction, managerial, and
organizational skills. Those Seniors who do not participate
is this class will be offered leadership positions in
one of the Aerospace Science I, II, or III classes.
AVIATION FUNDAMENTALS
Honors Semesters 2

Open to college bound juniors and seniors, upon recommendation
by school guidance counselor and acceptance by the Aerospace
Science Instructor. This is a science course designed
to acquaint the student with the fundamentals of aviation
and to prepare the student to successfully pass the
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Private Pilot
Written Test. The course will cover fundamentals of
aviation and include: principles of flight, the flight
environment, aircraft systems and performance, meteorology,
navigation, aviation physiology, flight planning, and
decision making. The final portion of the course will
concentrate on applying the principles learned to prepare
for the FAA exam. This course satisfies the requirements
for the FAA Ground School. Although not a course requirement,
students who successfully complete this course will
be qualified to take the FAA Recreational or Private
Pilot Written Test.
ADVENTURES IN
LEADERSHIP I Accel. Semesters 2
Aerospace Science Credits 1
Prerequisite: Student must be currently enrolled in
one additional Aerospace Science Course. This is a leadership
development course for AFJROTC cadets. Leadership skills
are taught and enhanced through intense student activities.
These activities include: Orienteering; Group Problem
Solving; the learning and application of wilderness
survival skills; and precision individual and group
Exhibition Drill. This is an outdoors-oriented course.
Enrollment in this course requires participation in
the competition Drill Team or Color Guard. Extensive
participation in AFJROTC activities outside the normal
school day is required. Participation in these activities
constitutes a major portion of the student’s grade.
Additionally, the student must be willing to spend considerable
time outdoors in all types of weather. Students must
be committed to extensive practice and preparation for
competition. The course will include both day and night
Orienteering and survival exercises requiring participation
in overnight activities.

Prerequisite: Student must have completed at least one
Aerospace Science course and be currently enrolled in
one additional Aerospace Science Course. In addition
to the requirements of the regular/comprehensive course,
students will be required to serve as leaders in one
or more activities. This will include the planning and
execution of the activity.
ADVENTURES IN LEADERSHIP
III Accel. Semesters 2
Aerospace Science Credits 1
Prerequisite: Student must have completed at least one
Aerospace Science course and be currently enrolled in
one additional Aerospace Science Course. This course
builds on knowledge and skills acquired in Adventures
In Leadership I & II. In this course the students
will serve as leaders in one or more activities. Additionally,
they will plan and direct at least one activity in each
of the major instructional areas.
ADVENTURES IN LEADERSHIP
IV Accel. Semesters 2
Aerospace Science Credits 1
Prerequisite: Student must have completed at least one
Aerospace Science course and be currently enrolled in
one additional Aerospace Science Course. This course
builds on knowledge and skills acquired in Adventures
in Leadership I, II, & III. In this course the students
will be responsible for developing and directing a major
portion of activities in one of the major areas of the
course such as Survival, Orienteering, Group Problem
Solving, or Drill.
