U.S. Government AP
This course will be two semesters instead of one. The first semester meets the graduation requirement, while the second semester is an elective. This course, which is designed for the top-notch government student who has more than a casual interest in the working of his government, will allow extended time to study points of interest. Students must have the recommendation of their U.S. History teacher. Guest speakers, much class participation, and more outside activities will be a part of this course. Tests will be essay. Students will be encouraged to develop self-discipline in this course. The government course satisfies the requirement as the required class for graduation and counts toward the honors/AP program

IB EUROPEAN HISTORY Part I IB Semesters 2

This course will provide the student with an in depth study of European History from the Renaissance to present day. It will also cover the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Latin American history. If IB European History Part I is completed then it will count as the students World Civilization credit. The student will be required to start their Historical Investigation during the second semester. Outside reading assignments will be required of the student. At the end of the course the student can challenge the AP European History Test if they wish. To receive full IB credit the student must take the IB Topics class their senior year and complete all requirements for it. Prerequisites: IB Diploma Candidates must complete the pre IB course requirements for US History. The course may be taken by a certificate candidate without having to complete the pre IB prerequisites.

WORLD CIVILIZATION Comp Semesters 2

This course follows a chronological survey of World Civilization from 1500-present using a variety of tools including primary and secondary sources, data, and artifacts. This chronological perspective helps the students develop an understanding of the importance of eras in World Civilization and recognizes cause-and-effect relationships, multiple causation, and the role of individuals and groups, social, political, economic, and geographic characteristics of each era. World Civilization is a graduation requirement for all students.

U.S. GOVERNMENT Comp/Accel Semesters 1
Social Studies Credits 0.5
This course covers the national, state and local levels of government with the U.S. It covers rights of individuals within a free society and the role of individuals in American government. It covers the Constitution and the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government. The focus of the class is to encourage responsible student participation in a democracy. Government is a required course for graduation for all students.
