Let's try to act civil

by: Andrew S. Roberts
Associate Opinions Editor

Whatever happened to going up to someone and saying, "Hello my good fellow, how are you doing today?" Because it just seems everywhere I go now a days, I very rarely here someone use that as an opening line when they first meet someone. Usually it's something like, "Get out of my way you little something," or "Me and you are going to fight at so and so time at so and so place." Is it just me, or does it seem most young people today are de-evolving back into moronic baboons.

I have begun to tire of these every day occurences, from most commonly someone you don't even know. There is no point to it. I mean, if the best line you can come up with is, "Lets go outside and fight", then school hasn't really served you well all these years, now has it. People have to learn to settle their differences in less violent way. For example, I don't know, try talking.

After all it's a little pathetic if all you can come up with as a come back is let's fight. Because sooner or later you're going to find someone as dumb as you, and a lot better at fighting, and would teach you a lesson. Then after all is said and done, you might realize fighting to solve your problems isn't the brightest of ideas. Because in the world of "let's fight, cause I'm not bright enough to come up with anything else." Bad things will become of you.

So instead here I am, merely complaining about you (all of you) who feel the only way to make your point come across is by fighting. Which can lead to many things besides you getting beaten. And also can lead to many discipline problems in high school such as being expelled from it. The real world, such as being arrested and taken away from freedom. Fighting does nothing but create more problems, it is never a solution.

Now there are going to, of course, be those who read this whom will say, "He's only saying these things because he doesn't fight." You know what? you're right! I don't fight, and I'll tell you why. I'm not going to get in any trouble in school over an argument with someone, who in my world doesn't matter. Also I think that being the age we are, fighting shouldn't be the only thing we know how to do. Sure I could say the lame line of "I'm a lover not a fighter," but we all know that isn't true.

I just don't see the need to ever fight, over the most trifle of things that we high schooler's fight over. I mean the simple accident of bumping into someone in the hall does not warrant a fight, it warrants an "I'm sorry" I mean lets all just try and act civil.
