Because it's pink

The Easter Bunny is Pink. Pink is a pastel color. My guess is that people wear pastels around Easter because the Easter Bunny is pink...or maybe just because it's Spring, the sun is coming out, and people have just gotten tired of wearing black. It makes no difference why people wear pastels around Easter. The point is that they do, in case you haven't noticed.
Pastels must be really important. I mean, for crying out loud, they get their own names, and when people talk they actually use those names. There's pink, lavender, lemon, baby blue, and mint green. When you add black to colors, most of the time people don't give notice to those shades. We just say, "oh, that's a dark green," or something like that.
When Easter comes around, or just Spring for that matter, pastels are always good for business. All the stores bring out their pastel skirts, pastel ties, and other pastel attire. When Easter comes around, pastels just sell.
Everywhere I look there are pastels, and even after Easter is over , pastels are left in every store we walk in. There's the left over candy that no parent wanted to put in their child's Easter basket, and the left over dresses that no one wanted to wear on Easter Sunday to church. In this time, pastels serve as an almost depressing reminder that the Holidays of April are over. The only reason to buy pastels after Easter, is that they're on sale. It's not like anyone will actually use them. If one does buy a pastel dress on sale, and claims that she will wear it next Easter, when the pastels are brought out the next year, she will only want a new one. She won't wear the one she bought last year!
Addressing the issue of pastels is a difficult one. Pastel colors are great, but only useful at a certain time. So after the month of April is over, it will be time to put our pastel wear in the back of our closets once again. Until next Easter they will be shoved away, providing the only light in our deep dark closets. The Easter Bunny will go back to his home, and his bright pink coat will be seen no more.
