by: Kim Gregory
Exchange & Distribution Manager

On December 3rd, students form Deer Park Elementary School visited various Apollo High School classrooms. Mr. Barrett, Mrs. Higdon, and Mrs. Blandford all had Apollo students and Deer Park students interacting together in their classrooms.
The students were in the first grade (seven years old) and were learning how to use the internet. In each seperate classroom different lessons were being taught. Amy Foreman, a Deer Park teacher said, "My students were really excited about coming to Apollo and meeting and learning with the high school students."

Mr. Barrett's classroom lesson was over transportation. Mrs. Blandford's classroom helped teach the younger children how to use search engines and Mrs. Higdon's classroom focused on the internet based researching of Native Americans.
For about a two month period, students from Apollo and Deer Park have been e-mailing each other back and forth. The high school students have been helping teach the younger children how to send e-mails, and how to locate information on the internet.
When they visited, both Deer park and Apollo students shared projects with each other and learned new and intererseting facts about computers.

Brittany Young, a student in Mr. Barrett's classroom said, "I really enjoyed spending time with the little kids. I think it was a great experience for them to interact with others. It also teaches them new and useful computer skills they will most likely need later on in life."
