No more phone calls

A few weeks ago, several students gabbed about everything to
anyone while using the payphones in the commons area. Now, it is a silent,
bare wall in the commons area. Now, many students ponder what either happened
or what they did wrong. What's the truth?
First of all, it wasn't any of the students' faults. In fact, it wasn't even
the administration's fault. It all comes down to the main people in charge
of the phones.
Bellsouth, the owners of our long-gone payphones, took them out. The fact in
the matter was that they felt they weren't getting their half of the deal.
In other words, they weren't making much money off of them.
As of December 31, 2003, Bellsouth is no longer participating
in the payphone business. From speaking to the Company, it is said that they
exited the business due to cell phones.
Many students ask, well how come? It comes down to the point
of about 80-85% of students as well as teachers, have cell phones. Now, most
teachers don't always use them, they aren't going to use the payphones to call
someone. Then, there are the students that will try to use their cell phone
during school if they don't get caught. Therefore, most students didn't even
use those payphones in the first place.
But, most students think that it would be nice to have them
if they could not use their cell phone. Which brings up the issue of replacing
those old payphones with new ones.
The Daviess County Board of Education has decided to try their best in
getting new phones. But, there is a major problem in getting a new company
which resorts to more and more confusion. Matt Robbins, a Daviess County
boardmember, has said that it will more than likely take a while to find
a new vendor to supply the schools with more payphones.
Most students do wish that they could possibly receive payphones
by the end of the school year. Well, from all this information, it is to be
believed that it may not be possible to receive payphones by even next year.
Now most students are wondering, what will take over that bare
wall? "Probably
more Coke Machines!" Juniors Matt Johnson and Michelle Harris
stated.
Now that students wonder about when they will get them back,
they will start using them more. This means that if Apollo eventially
does receive more payphones, then maybe students won't ever take
those for granted again. So, will students ever be able to make calls again?
Who knows?

Where'd they go?-The remaining wall where at one time people could phone a
friend.
