Second Semester
by Andrew S. Roberts Associate Opinions Editor
One semester past, only one left until
glorious summer vacation. Well some of the students here
have. But for the most part the student body has done
a fairly good job and slacking off. And now that second
semester is upon us, we'll all buckle down and make good
grades, either that or stair out the window looking at
birds and duddle in the corners of text books.
Then term slacking off is not something that only seniors, i myself have been slacking off since about second grade. From the look at the rest of the student body I'd say that most of my fellow students have been as well. Why is it that you tell your self "this year I'm not going to slack off, this year I'm going to make straight A's." But within about 3 weeks of school you're happy with a C-, it's still passing at least.
Then comes the over crowding of study
hall's, which at the start of the year had maybe ten
to twenty people, maybe. Then after the first semester
there is forty to fifty people, because they were in
a class and it was too hard so they decided to drop it,
that's not being a slacker. A slacker is one who slacks
off on doing his or her work until the last possible
moment, or doesn't even do it at all. What you are when
you drop a class can be called nothing more then lazy,
you've already wasted eighteen weeks in most of these
classes and now your going to just stop, I'm sorry but
that seems pretty stupid to me, if you've wasted that
much time, just finish the class.
I guess I can understand how one could slack off a little more from first semester to second semester. But you don't really have any reason to slack off. What's really that different from first semester to second?
It's a little closer to summer. That is
no excuse to not work hard. You're just going to end
up spending most of your high school years repeating
the same grades, over and over again. Because you didn't
know when to stop goofing off. Stop goofing off, get
into a study hall or something. Just do your little bit
of work from each class, turn it in, get your bad grade,
and move on to the next grade.
