Apollo's Cheerleaders prepare for a Victory
by: Kim Gregory
Exchange & Distribution Manager

This year the Apollo High School Competition Squad for the Cheerleaders was done a little bit differently. This year, there will only be one competition squad, which will travel and compete around Kentucky. There were tryouts held, and each cheerleader on blue and white squad could choose whether to try out or not.

The 2003-2004 Competition Squad members are seniors Becca Griffin, Laura Hagan, Lynsie Bunn, Jaime Mattingly, and Jordan Whitehead. Juniors are Andrea Roberson, Kim Gregory, Amanda Day, and Krystal Hill. Sophmores are Ashley Allen, Susan Kuegel, Morgan Wilhoite, Samantha Wall, and Amber Mattingly. Freshman are Noor Madi, Brittany Greenwalt, Tiffani English, Jaime Winters, Jaime Stewart, Courtney Wilhoite, Whitney Frey, and Rachel Hale. They are coached by Nancy Schmeal and Sara Frey.

This years squad is preparing and working hard for their competitions. They will be preparing for their main competition which is KAPOS Regionals held in February.
The squad was awarded a first place finish at the Big Red Rally at Western Kentucky University in Bolwing Green, Kentucky. The squad also recieved a bid to the National Championships, which are held in Orlando, Florida. After this competition, the squad made some crucial changes to the routine to add more difficulty.

The Competition squad practices 2-3 times a week. They train at Apollo High School and Cheer Zone. When practicing they focus on tumbling skills, sharper motions, jumps, and improving their stunting abilities.

The Challenger staff would like to wish the Apollo Cheerleaders good luck in their future competitions.
