Act your age while you can
by: Andrew S. Roberts - Associate Opinions Editor

The term prune means dried plum, or to trim a dead or living part from a plant. Why then, when I walk around school, do I find that I am surrounded by prune. My term for prune has nothing to do with plums, or trimming parts of plants at all. My definition of the word prune is the up tightness of people for absolutely no reason.

I mean, this is high school, why in the name of all things holy is everyone uptight? If you start off at a young age this way, you're in for a life filled with stress over the most trifling of things, (for example, you may accidently put a white sock in with your colored, and you'll nearly have a nervous break down moments ) and boring thoughts (such as, did I forget to buy more sticky pads to write phone messages down from a phone call. I mean, come on, at that age invest in a answering message, then you never have to answer the phone again, if you don't want to.)

While you're still a teenager, you need to learn to have a little fun. You know slack off, neglect studying for once in your life. Kick back and look at your books, closed. Now, I'm not saying that you shouldn't study, because sometimes you need to, but you don't have to spend hours doing it. You don't have to waste your childhood behind a book, getting good grades so you can have a good future, all the while negelected your childhood.

If that sounds too hard, then you are way past the point of no return you might as well start wearing a tie now calling everyone sir, get yourself a briefcase, because your life is going be that boring forever. But if you read this, and it makes sense to not spend all your time studying, and for a change have a little fun, there is hope for you.

To de-uptight yourself is actually very simple process, STOP BEING A PRUNE. Just loosen up, have a little fun. Live your teen life like your suppose to. You don't have to be the top five percent of your class to have a good future. You can have a pretty good future and be the dumbest person in the world (just as long as you have good looks to get you where you need to go, I'm only kidding about that, half way.)

I mean, pushing yourself to be the best, or in a word "perfect," is unrealistic of anyone, because you will never acheive that goal. You may have perfect scores or straight A's in every class, but you won't have a life. You wouldn't have had any fun while your still a kid, and get away with so much more. But as an adult everyone will look at you to set an "example". Instead of having an ounce of fun anymore your stuck setting "examples" for young teenagers, who are off having fun ignoring you're attempt to set a good "example".

So while you're still a teenager, or a young adult, and you still have time to goof off, and nothing bad will come of it, go for it. Studying that's ok, just for a change do something besides study. Instead of spending your weekend home (trying to think of more ways to become uptight) go out and do something. Go to the movies, hang out at the mall, go to a party. School is important, but so is actually living your life. Your a kid, and while you're still a kid learn to act like one, so when your old and gray you aren't just sitting around eating prunes.
