Blue house players are "Acting
Out"
by Andrew
S. Roberts - Associate Opinions Editor
The Blue House Players have been hard at work preparing
for the debu of there new play "Acting Out".
I was previleged enough to be allowed to sit through
one of there rehearsals a week before it came out to
get a sneek peek at what this play is about.
Mrs. Jerome and student director Ashley Boswell, along with lights manger Jennie
Cockrell were high up in the sounds and lighting booth above the stadium steating
of the auditorum, seeing the performers going through their scenes. Obvious frustration
over a forgotten line or stumbled upon word or two that was forgotten but no
one noticed, began to take its toll on the two. But keeping as professional as
possible, they talked amoungst themselves about what changes they might need
to make to the lighting before opening night.
Very much to my graditude they allowed
me to be up there with them so I was not distractined
while watching their rehearsal. Which it may only just
be a rehearsal, but it was still very well preformed.
Looking down onto the stage from where
I stood, I could see all the performers on stage and
off. The creativity of this play in a few words is very
good. The way they show you its all a dream that there
describing. It is very easy to comprehend, if you keep
and open mind about the whole play. The amount of work
other cast members not on stage is abundent, running
as quitly as possible from off stage to on stage, not
making a noise while doing so. It was funny watching
student director Ashley Boswell have to fun from the
sound and lighting booth upstairs to the stage down stairs.
Some who read this aritcle may be thinking
some of the things said may sound bad, but they are not.
The few stubbled lines are to be expected by any play,
school or professional. The actors still remained proffessional and kept in
character, and never lost their places just kept on going
over their lines.
As you sit in the seats opening night
of the play, and the lights keeping going from stage
left to stage right; here's some information you may
not have known: they don't do this on their own. Jennie
Cockrell is the lady behind those wonderful light changes.
With a little help from Ashley Boswell on the spot light,
who following the little actors as they meaander around
the stage. So keep in mind as you sit there on opening
night, theres a lot of work going on, not only on the
stage that you can see.
Not even mentioning cast and crew memebers
with smaller roles in the play. There are extras, who
wait off stage until the time comes for them to find
there way onto the stage for there short lived roles,
as some would think. But without them the play wouldn't
hold together as well, so don't think a short role isn't
a role at all; You wouldn't enjoy the play as much without the no line actors.
The play "Acting Out" is a very well written play, that the Blue House
Players rehearsed as good as could be expected seeing how its not opening night
yet. From funny anticts to serious moments, this play surprisingly enough has
a even share of a well rounded preformance, for Blue House Players to mess around
with, and should make for a most entertaining play for all students, teachers,
and anyone else whom views the play.
My thanks to Mrs. Jerome for allowing me a sneak peek at one of there rehearsal
for the play "Acting Out". Had a great time, and I know I'm not alone
in saying, "can't wait for opening night."
