Simply the best

Saturday, February 28th, the Apollo Competition squad competed at KAPOS Regionals held in Breckinridge County. In years past, Apollo Cheerleaders have won Regional Champs four times in a row. This year they competed in the Large Varsity Division. They were against local teams Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic High Schools Cheerleaders.

Apollo had a great routine with very few flaws if any. Owensboro Catholic finshed the competition as Runner-ups and Apollo High was awarded first place and Regional Champions.

Coach Nancy Schmeal said, "We had lots of young girls along with many injuries throughout this season. We've had to just put all of this behind us and overcome all this by just keeping on and putting it behind us."

Seniors Laura Hagan, Rebecca Griffin, Jaime Mattingly, Lynsie Bunn, and Jordan Whitehead were all given certificates for having above a 3.3 grade point average. Rebecca Griffin and Jordan Whitehead also recieved Cheerleading Scholarships worth $300.00!

The Apollo Competition squad have now advanced to the State Level and competed against some of the top teams located around the Kentucky area. They competed against teams from Louisville, Henderson and other regions around Kentucky. In order to get to the State Level teams must placed first place in their division in Regionals. Advancing to the State Level is an accomplishment and a great honor. The State KAPOS Championships Competition was held at Eastern Kentucky University, located in Richmond, Kentucky. The Apollo Cheerleaders competed in Session 2 on March 20th.
The Apollo Cheerleaders had an outstanding routine and walked away being 8th out of the state of Kentucky. The Cheerleaders have accomplished very much this year with all the injuries and sicknesses that have occurred. The Cheerleaders would like to let the Seniors know that they will be missed next year and they wish them the best of luck in the future.

The Challenger Staff would like to congratulate all the Apollo Cheerleaders on their 1st place Regional Title and their trip to the State Competition.
