Senior activities that are happening right now

by: Samantha Hayes

The end of the year is coming to a close for most Seniors. From the beginning of May, starting with Prom, the Seniors start winding down until graduation.

Prom at the Executive Inn was the first highlight for Seniors and some Juniors. From nine o'clock to twelve, this Prom was the last dance for the Seniors and was a very nice end to the four years of dances by having it at an elegant place.

Right after Prom, the most dreaded and sometimes the most looked forward to events begin, AP Exams. Beginning on the Fourth with Spanish and Computer Science testing, many Seniors have to start waking up a few minutes earlier to participate in the exams. The Ap Government exam is on the twelfth of May, and is the last one that any AP students have to take.

Yet these exams are not required, so students can choose to take them. Those students who do well enough may even get exempt from one of the semester college courses.
Remember to check the guidance office window for times and dates of the exams.

In addition, there comes one of the incentives of doing well as a Senior, the Senior Breakfast. All a Senior has to do is sign up for the breakfast in the week of the tenth through the thirteenth. This breakfast is on the nineteeth in the commons area. In addition, there is the Senior picnic that is held at Atlantis every year. It is lasting from ten to two on Tuesday the eighteenth.
Then, for the students who have tried their hardest throughout highschool will get their recognition. Honors Night is at six-forty five in the Auditorium on the eleventh. This is done to insure that all Seniors who deserve mentioning recieve that honor.

The last day for Seniors that do not have to take finals is the thirteenth of May, which is incentive enough to do well in school. Yet there are two other events that will be going on that day to show appreciation to those Seniors that are graduating. Senior Walk begins at eleven-fifteen and lasts for fifteen minutes in which music will be played and teachers will plan their teaching around accordingly. The songs that will play will be the Senior song, which is "Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake and the other songs such as "Time of My Life" which was a runner up.

This is a time for Seniors to visit favorite teachers to relive "old times" in classrooms or just to look around at the place that most Seniors have practically had to live in for the last four years.

Also on the thirteenth would be the Senior Lunch, in which all Seniors are served Bar-B-Q sandwiches and drinks to show appreciation. This is the last regular day for Seniors, so do not forget to give it your all.

Even after school is officially over for all students, Seniors have to come back for the graduation practice that is at the sportcenter at eleven-thirty to one-thirty on the nineteenth of May.

Since this practice is mandatory, if the Seniors do not go, first they will be placed at the end of the line. Yet if none of the practices are attended, many Seniors will not be able to walk the line at graduation if they do not show up for the practices.
Overall, most Seniors, by the thirteenth are ready to just run out of the school before the bell even rings, or so Senior Diedre Gentry believes (the girl in the picture).
This feeling seems to be widespread throughout the Senior class, with many Seniors asking their teachers for free days in class.

On the fourteenth and the seventeenth there are Senior finals, for those students who did not do as well on their CATS scores last year, or could have possibly failed a class. This is definetely not the most looked foward to event of the year.

After school lets out for those lucky Seniors who dont have to take finals, there is a Baccalaureate Service on the sixteenth that Seniors can go to that they do not have to wear their cap and gown, but they will get recognized for their accomplishments.

Lastly, there is the Graduation ceremony. This will be the most important event of the year for most Seniors. After two practices, with and without the cap and gown, this will be mostly memorized by all the Seniors that are involved. Remember that Graduation is on the twenty-first of May, so come and be involved!
