Brescia University Math-Science Competition
The Apollo science team won the eighth annual Brescia University Math-Science Competition on Nov. 1. Apollo maintained their perfect record in the competition with their eighth consecutive win!

The competition, coordinated by Brescia mathematics professor Dr. Chris Tiahrt, consisted of four contest areas. In the Problem Solving Exam Contest, students took ten-question, multiple-choice exams in each of the subject areas of biology, chemistry, physics, math and computer science. In the Experimentation and Estimation Contest, teams of up to four students estimated quantitative answers to problems based on scientific reasoning and experimentation. In the Design Contest, students had to design a candle weighing no more than 1 gram (including fuel, wick and holder) that burned as long as possible. The candle had to be safe to operate and display a visible flame. In the Internet Search Contest, students were allowed 75 minutes to search the net for answers to 25 trivia questions.

The overall team standings for the competition were: first, Apollo, 16 points; second, Hopkinsville, 8 points; third, Owensboro, 0 points.

Results for Apollo students placing in the top 10 in each contest were:
