Season Opener Classic
The Apollo High School quick recall team
made their third visit to the “motor city”
in four years and placed fifth in the 4th Annual University
of Michigan-Dearborn Season Opener Classic in Dearborn,
Michigan, on October 18. The tournament featured 18
teams (17 Michigan teams and Apollo).
Apollo went 4-2 in the tournament, outscored
their opponents 2,500 to 1,600 and brought their season
record to 12-4. They went 4-1 in the preliminaries and
advanced to the playoffs as the No. 6 seed. They went
0-1 in the playoffs, losing to the No. 3 seed. Michael
Boone led the team in scoring, followed by Katrina Boone,
A.J. Estes, Tyler Sagardoy, Elizabeth Rogers and Emily
Pearl.
In addition to the competition, the Apollo
team toured Greenfield Village in Dearborn. Greenfield
Village, built by Henry Ford as a 90 acre outdoor museum,
is filled with buildings of historical significance,
including the Wright Brother’s Cycle Shop, Thomas
Edison’s Menlo Park Laboratory Complex, the original
Ford Motor Company Factory and Henry Ford’s Birthplace.
