AHS and DCHS Academic Team Results: Pennyrile
Meet #1 (Submitted by John Woolley)
The Apollo High School and Daviess County High
School academic teams set the pace for the 15-school Pennyrile
Academic Association in the first meet of the 2003-2004 school
year on September 8.
Both teams are tied for first in the varsity
quick recall standings with 2-0 records. Apollo's varsity defeated
Henderson County 34-10 and Madisonville-North Hopkins 23-20
while Daviess County's varsity defeated Grayson County 38-4
and Webster County 39-3.
Apollo is tied for first in the junior varsity
quick recall standings with a 2-0 record and Daviess County
is tied for sixth with a record of 1-1. Apollo's JV defeated
Henderson County 26-4 and Madisonville-North Hopkins 20-17 while
Daviess County's JV defeated Webster County 23-3 ands lost to
Grayson County 22-19.
While comprising 13% of the PAA membership, AHS
and DCHS collected 30% of the top 10's in written assessment
with 34 out of 114 and 29% of the top 5's with 15 out of 51.
Placing in the top 10 overall were: Varsity -
Arts and Humanities: second, Ryan Taber (DCHS); tied for ninth,
Ashley McMichael (AHS) and Taryn Rice (AHS). Language Arts:
first, Katherine Crabtree (DCHS); fourth, A.J. Estes (AHS);
tied for 10th, Emily Pearl (AHS) and Whitney Kullman (DCHS).
Social Studies: second, Bart Swift (AHS); sixth, Rebecca Hartsough
(DCHS); tied for 9th, Katrina Boone (AHS) and Tyler Sagardoy
(AHS). Science: first, Michael Boone (AHS); fifth, Harini Chenna
(DCHS); sixth, Jonathon Brown (DCHS); ninth, Andrew Chacko (DCHS);
10th, John Clark (AHS). Math: second, Ryan Young (DCHS); third,
Landon Basham (AHS); fourth, Chris Bowers (DCHS); fifth, Jeron
Maynard (DCHS). Junior Varsity - Arts and Humanities: third,
Elizabeth Rogers (AHS); sixth, Daniel Palmer (DCHS). Language
Arts: fifth, Amanda Kirtley (DCHS); tied for 10th, Ashley Boswell
(AHS) and Carrie Gentry (AHS). Social Studies: first, Andrew
Ashley (DCHS); tied for sixth, Thomas Cameron (AHS) and Krissy
Phelps (DCHS); ninth, Graham Gallagher (DCHS). Science: sixth,
Travis McMaine (AHS). Math: first, Casey Duckwall (DCHS); third,
Ryan Seabolt (AHS); sixth, Ian Wilkey (AHS); eighth, Jake Machin
(DCHS).
