School Based Council Meeting
June 15, 2004 – 12:00 p.m. – Conference Room
The regular meeting of the school based council was called to order by Tom Purcell, principal, at 12:00 p.m. Members present: Tom Purcell, James Morgan, Tim Taylor, Scott Kuegel, Melissa Morris and James Gilles. Mr. Curt Newcom was guest. A motion was made by Buzz Backstrom to begin the meeting. Melissa Morris seconded the motion and there was a consensus.
Approve June Agenda – Tom Purcell requested to add one agenda item under other. This item was the appointment of secretary for the 2004-05 school year. A motion was made by Buzz Backstrom to approve the June agenda. James Morgan seconded the motion and there was a consensus.
Approve May Minutes – A motion was made by James Morgan to approve the May minutes. Buzz Backstrom seconded the motion and there was a consensus.
Personnel Update – The following positions are open:
JV Boys Soccer Coach Assistant Basketball Coach
Beacon Bus Monitor Special Programs Department Coordinator
The following positions have been filled with the following individuals.
Co-op Teacher–Tony Hopper Field Maintenance–Shane Eans, Jerry Crabtree
Head Boys Basketball Coach–Tony Hopper Chip Carrpenter, Mike Wilkerson
English Teacher–Micki Clark Writing Cluster Leader–Cam Matthews
Art Teacher–Shawn Tomes Yearbook Sponsor–Jonathon Paff
Asst. Football Coach–Terry Staggs
A motion was made by James Morgan to go into closed session to discuss personnel. The motion was seconded by Tim Taylor and there was a consensus. There being no action taken in closed session, Tim Taylor motion to resume an open meeting. The motion was seconded by Buzz Backstrom and there was a consensus.
Budget Update- Tom Purcell informed the council that he will forward them an accurate SEEK report at the completion of the fiscal year. This will be immediately after June 30.
Foreign Language Update – The council discussed the need for the school to be consistent in informing parents and middle school students who enter Apollo with foreign language credit.
Vice Chair of SBDM Council – Tom Purcell asked the council to be thinking about a vice chair for the 2004-05 school year. Someone will be chosen during the July council meeting.
Training Certificates – Tom Purcell reminded each council member to turn in his/her certificate of attendance for training.
Other – Tom Purcell recommended to the council that Becki Burton remain secretary for the 2004-05 school year.
Tom Purcell awarded Mr. Buzz Backstrom a plaque on behalf of the council and Apollo High School for his dedicated service as a parent representative the past two school years.
Tom Purcell then welcomed Mr. Curt Newcom who will be serving as the new parent representative beginning with the 2004-05 school year.
The date for the next SBDM meeting is Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at noon in the conference room.
There being no further business a motion was made by Melissa Morris to adjourn at 1:30 p.m. Scott Kuegel seconded the motion and there was a consensus.
