My name is Jan Young and I will be the counselor that will work with all juniors. Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, September 14 th at 6:30 p.m. There will be a junior information meeting in the Commons Area. In order to create a student folder for your son/daughter, you must call the guidance office and speak to Kristi Tong (the office manager). Ms. Tong will take the information and prepare a packet for you to have. You must call Ms. Tong by Friday, September 10 th in order to prepare the folders. The number is 852-7105 and if you are unable to get through, please email me at jyoung@daviess.k12.ky.us and give me your son/daughter’s name---not yours by Friday, September 10th.

Information that I will cover:

--ACT and SAT testing dates - Why students should be reviewing and taking it now.

--PSAT –Given once during the junior year and test results could lead to thousands of dollars in scholarships. Students must sign up for this test and Ms. Young will give the sign up dates.

--Transcript review - Every student must earn credits in all required classes and earn specific number of credits for their diploma.

--E Guidance web page - Great information that gives information on how to look for FREE MONEY and other free services.

--Governor’s Scholars Program and/or the Governor’s School For the Arts Program-Summer programs for juniors that are free. Students must make application to the program and then a final selection is made. MANY SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES COME FROM THESE SUMMER PROGRAMS.

--NCAA Initial Eligibility Process- All students playing at the Division I or Division II level must be approved. GRADES are extremely important to become eligible.

There is so much information to give and so little time left when you look at the big picture. If your son/daughter is considering going on to a higher level of education, this program is a must for you and it is FREE. Some of you are receiving information about scholarship search services, college search services and they will search it for you for a fee. WE have the information and you can learn how to research the information FREE on September 14 th at 6:30 p.m. in the commons area. The meeting will be over around 7:45 p.m.

You must call or email to reserve your information packet.

Looking forward to a great year!
