SENIOR PARENT/STUDENT INFORMATION SHEET

My name is Jan Young and I will be your son/daughter's guidance counselor.

IMPORTANT ITEMS TO REMEMBER

•  SENIOR PARENT MEETING ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 TH AT 6:30 P.M. IN THE AUDITORIUM. The purpose of this meeting is to give you a transcript of credits for your son/daughter and explain the various diplomas that will be awarded during graduation. Information regarding college/universities will be addressed along with scholarship information. I will send out a letter to you in August reminding you of the meeting. You will be asked to call the guidance office and let us know you will attend. We will then prepare individual packets and distribute them to you on September 13 th . The number is 852-7105 and someone will take your son/daughter's name at that time.

•  YOUR SON/DAUGHTER WILL RECEIVE SEVERAL INFORMATIONAL LETTERS FROM ME THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. The letters I give them contain information regarding scholarships, senior graduation information, career speaker information, etc. I give these to the senior English teachers and ask them to make sure each student gets one. I AM A PARENT AS WELL AND REALIZE THESE LETTERS MAY NOT MAKE IT HOME SO. YOU CAN ALSO FIND EVERY LETTER ON THE APOLLO WEBSITE. GO TO WWW.AHS.DCPS.ORG AND CLICK ON GUIDANCE. YOU WILL THEN FIND THE SENIOR LISTING AND CLICK ON THAT HEADING.

•  Examples of scholarship websites that should be reviewed:

YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP SEARCH. THERE ARE MANY SCAMS OUT THERE TO TAKE YOUR MONEY. DO SOME RESEARCH THROUGH THESE WEBSITES. THIS AND MORE INFORMATION WILL BE GIVEN ON THE SEPTEMBER 13 TH MEETING.

•  The Apollo website allows you to find out what will be happening at Apollo and you can find information on how to email teachers as well. You have the ability to access your son/daughter's grades to stay informed and make sure they graduate. This requires you to get a PIN number from the guidance office. It is the same PIN the student has had since freshmen year.

•  BE AWARE OF THE ACT AND SAT TEST DATES. STUDENTS WILL BE GIVEN THIS INFORMATION AND I WILL REVIEW THIS AT THE SEPTEMBER 13 TH MEETING. When filling out the ACT or SAT information sheet, it will ask what the high school code is. This must be filled out in order for Apollo to receive a copy so we can award KEES monies. The HIGH SCHOOL CODE IS 182033.

I LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOUR SON/DAUGHTER AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AS WELL.
