Colleges - OVERVIEW

KEES money (not available outside KY)
-
Academic Common Market
-
College tuition rose an average of 10.5% this fall 2004 at public four-year colleges and 6% at private colleges, the College Board says.
-
The national average cost of tuition, room and board for in-state students at public schools is now $11,354/yr; private colleges, it’s $27,516/yr.
ISSUES TO CONSIDER
-
Talk about college expectations early (now)
-
Talk about over scheduling, balance with your child
-
Consider study time that’s user friendly for your child; quiet vs. with TV/radio on
-
Consider the junior & senior year course selection early (total high school plan)
-
Goal setting: “Where do you see yourself in 3 years?” “Do you picture yourself doing…”
-
Great disservice to students to send them to college without “heads up” on college expectations.
SURVIVAL SKILLS TOOL KIT
