A new coach and a new attitude

Coming off a 3rd region championship season and an appearance in the state tournament, the Eagles are ready to avenge a disappointing loss to Warren Central in the state tournament.
This season Apollo has a new coach and only one returning starter. Apollo also has two experienced leaders in seniors Reggie Wilson and Nathan McDivitt.
Their new coach, Tony Hopper has been coaching for 23 years. Before the Apollo job opened up, he was coaching at a basketball academy.
“I have had a love for this game most of my life,” Hopper said. “That love inspired me to be a coach. I had always played so I thought the next step would be to coach.”
Hopper has coached at many area high schools including Central City, Muhlenburgh North, McLean Co , and Kentucky Wesleyan College.
“We are really optimistic about this upcoming season, said Hopper. “ We have a new coach and a new system, and we will get better everyday.”
Apollotested it’s new system against Madisonville, but had to do so without key player Doug Denton. The team played hard, but fell to Madisonville by one point.
The next game was against Owensboro. Apollo was ready to start district play. Apollo got very good play from Reggie Wilson from the three point line.
Apollo closed out the game with an eight point win over Owensboro at the Sports Center.
Apollo’s next game is here at Eaglerena against Catholic.
This game is going to be a good one; it’s the re-match of the district Championship game last year. This could be a preview of this years district championship game.
So come out and support the Eagles this year and fill the pit from the top to the bottom and don’t let anyone come to our house with more fans than us.
Hopfully, this year our basketball team can repeat as region champs. The team hopes for student support as well.
