Apollo Wrestling team features many new competitors for 2005

As many people have just recently found out this year, a new phenominal sport has cascaded into the winter sports schedule for 2004-2005.
Apollo, who has had a solo-member wrestling team for the past several years, with Joey Stone being the lone member, is now taking flight and consists of many new and soon-to-be recognized athletes.
The team, a combination of one senior, three juniors, and three freshman, is already well into their exciting season, with the coaching of Kennith Stone to teach and lead the team. The seven boys practice everyday after school and hold scrimmages about once or twice a week with other competing teams from the same region. Some of these teams are Union County, Ohio County, Henderson County, Caldwell County and Christian County.
The only competing senior is Aaron Barnes. This was Aaron’s first year on the wrestling team and, so far, he has enjoyed it very much. The challenges and phsical stress it takes to be able to compete are attributes that are appealing to most guys on the team.
“I think we’re going to be really good this year. We have a lot of good athletes on this team and we’re going to end up doing really well,” Barnes said of his hopes for the season.
The junior members on the team are Nick Shinn, Aaron Coomes and Michael Evans.
The freshman this season competing are Cody Martin, Jake Walters and Clyde Bartley.
Jamie Stone, the daughter of Coach Stone, is a reliable fan and loves watching the team compete and practice.
“The team is a lot of fun to watch. I’ve liked the sport since my brother wrestled all through high school,” she said.
The team has several upcoming matches and scrimmages so come out and support your AHS wrestlers.
