Black Friday: fear is not an option
By: Paul Palmer

The day after Thanksgiving is one of a hectic nature. It is the busiest day for Christams shoppers and many have started referring to it as Black Friday.
There are a variety of shoppers who have endured Black Friday and lived to tell the tale.
Rachel DeWeese, a senior, went to Target only to be instantly dismayed.
“I went and was practically smothered by the crowds. They were like demons. They were so rude and they wouldn’t even apologize after they ran over me.”
When asked if she’ll go next year, Rachel answered with a swift no way. “The deals weren’t even that good either.”
Some shoppers decided not to even attempt it. Emily Hatcher, a senior, had a nasty experience last year at Wal-Mart and has since decided to never attempt this again.
“ I was attacked by a mannish woman who accused me of cutting in line when I was just browsing. People get swept away with widespread paranoia. Just like the Salem Witchcraft Trials.”
The shoppers are not the only ones who fear the wrath of Black Friday. Junior Andrea Stone was scheduled to work on this horrid day.
“There were so many people at the mall and it felt like all of them ended up barking orders at me at the Great American Cookie. I know the customer is always right, but jeez every now and then I wish they would give me a break!”
A break is last thing many shoppers received on Black Friday, as the common conception is that Black Friday shopping is basically every man and woman for theirselves.
While some shoppers chose to face the crowds and others refused, there was a decent percentage of people who refused to leave their beds for the sake of some bargains.
Salena Evans, a senior, gives her motive for staying at home and out of the midst of confusion and chaotic shopping.
“As appealing as great bargain shopping sounds to me, my body refused to leave my comfortable bed...for..fear of dying. In the cold. Alone.”
Black Friday is clearly not a day for evey shopper. It is apparent that only the most bravehearted shoppers are willing to face the day and shop like primitive wild people.
