Close your pockets and open your mind

In the spirit of giving, my advice is give the unexpected. Over time, Christmas giving has become more and more materialistic. Make a list of what you want, and you get it. Whenever people go shopping, they don’t even have to think. They just buy STUFF. It’s all stuff that we will use for a while and eventually throw away.
When I get gifts from people, sometimes the best thing about them is the card that comes with it. The gift says nothing to me. It might make me happy, but like they always say, it’s the thought that counts. When you think about it, what kind of gift is clothes? The worst Christmas I’ve had is the one where all I wanted was clothes. After I got them I was kind of dissapointed. I mean, what can you do with clothes? Wear them....and that’s about it.
One thing I have learned about parents in general, is that they love the things you make so much more than the things you go out and buy. When we put up our Christmas tree, my parents always want to put the ugly, tacky, ornaments I made when I was little on the front of the tree, despite my objections. We should all be more like our parents in this way.
This Christmas when you’re shopping for someone, you should think about this. The best gifts are the ones that you either make or really put some thought into. My favorites are the one’s I didn’t ask for, and would never get for myself, but have actual use for them. So in closing, close your pockets and use your head, your brain, AND your mind.
