Merry Movies to Remember
by: Rachel DeWeese
Assoc. Entertainment Editor
Christmas is one of the best holidays for movies. No matter how old you are, you will always remember the words to “You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.” You are never to old to be terrified by the Ghost of Christmas Future, and though I completely despise A Christmas Story, you are never to old to remember your first BB Gun.
Christmas movies bring back memories for all of us, whether they be good or bad. The Grinch is probably one of my favorite Christmas characters. There’s just something about that cute, fuzzy, evil green monster that makes me feel all warm inside. It’s so comforting to know that he learns his lesson in the end. The original version, and the newer version with Jim Carey are both great to watch around Christmas time.
Charles Dicken’s story A Christmas Carol is a timeless classic as well, no matter which version you are watching. My personal favorite has to be The Muppet’s Christmas Carol. The songs in it are so wonderful, and Michael Caine makes a mean Scrooge. Right up there with The Muppet’s Christmas Carol is Scrooged with Bill Murray. This is a more modernized version of “A Christmas Carol,” and of coarse with Bill Murray, you can’t go wrong. His performance is always wickedly funny. Both of these versions are great, but we should never forget A Christmas Carol, the original black and white version.
As I have already said, I completely despise A Christmas Story, so I will not go into my negative thoughts of that movie. The reindeer movies always surface around Christmas time such as Rudolph, and Prancer, Rudolph of coarse being the best. I never get tired of Rudolph’s struggle for acceptance, and his triumph in the end. It just brings tears to my eyes.
Some other Christmas Classics you should check into over Christmas break include Christmas Vacation, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and of coarse The Godfather.
