Principal of the thing

The holiday season is in full swing. As I travel to various locations around Owensboro, I see the beautiful holiday décor and the long aisles of shoppers who have just found the perfect gift for their friends or loved ones. Have you noticed the traffic has picked up tremendously? I find myself in traffic jam after traffic jam. Over the years, I have learned to be more tolerant and not let road rage enter this mind of mine. Instead, I am being more cautious and looking out for the other driver. Um! I’m the other guy to all other drivers. I encourage you to take extra time and have extra patience as you travel throughout the holidays. Everyone has a place to go.

Speaking of piece, what about PEACE? I just love to play on words, specifically homonyms. The theme of ”world peace” is often heightened during the holiday season. There are a multitude of organizations that ask for donations to send abroad. During this season, we often read about and hear about countries at war finding time to have a cease -fire. But seemingly every day some senseless crimes occur, yes, even in Owensboro, causing alarm. I ask that you take time this holiday season to remember those service men and women who are abroad and will be on the battle fields throughout this festive time.

At Apollo, let’s continue to strive for peaceful days. It sure would be nice not to see any students in the office who have received a referral for whatever reason. It would also be nice not to have to pick up one single piece of trash in the cafeteria after breakfast or break. Did you notice that play on words again?

We have an outstanding school and it will take each of us to do his or her part in continuing to be the best that we can be as we strive to reach 100 percent proficiency by the year 2014. No student present today will be attending Apollo in the year 2014, unless as a staff member. But won’t it be nice to know that you played a role in making this school the number one school in the state of Kentucky as well as one of the finest academic institutions across the United States.

With that being said, I wish for each of you a very a holiday season.
Proud to be a member of the Eagle family
