We’re off to see the Wizard of Oz
by: Cesley Hamilton

Everyone has, at least once, seen the homesick teenager, the unintelligent scarecrow, the heartless tin-man, and the cowardly lion in the classic film, The Wizard of Oz. Now, the Apollo Drama Department and Chorus classes are proud to announce that it is going to be performed in March right here at Apollo.
In The Wizard of Oz, young Dorothy is on her way home when a twister picks up her house, along with her and her tiny dog, Toto, and are carried out of black-and-white Kansas and right over the rainbow into the land of color. She meets Glenda, the good witch of the North and is told in order to get back home to Auntie Em and the others, she must go and see the Wizard of Oz. She also bumps into the wicked witch of the West, who is angry at Dorothy for dropping a house on her sister. The Munchkins send her on her way down the yellow-brick road and wish her well.
Along the way she meets the Scarecrow who desperately desires a brain, the Tin-man who is yearning for a heart, and the Lion who craves courage. They head off to see the Wizard to see if he is as great as they’ve been told. To find outwhat happens next, you’ll have to come and see the play.
It has finally been decided who will be cast in the shoes of Judy Garland, Jack Haley, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Margaret Hamilton, and Frank Morgan. Tryouts were held by Mrs. Jerome, the drama teacher, and Ms. Elliott, the Chorus teacher, on January 24th and 25th.
