E-gals down OHS in double OT

It wasn’t the powerhouse Lakers that won the NBA Championship last year with superstars Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. It was the team that stuck together and played as one, the Detroit Pistons. That’s how the E-gals play, and it’s giving them some big wins.
Gabrielle Murphy had to sit on the sidelines the first couple of games this new year due to a “high hamstring” injury. Even though the E-gals lacked a critical starter, the girls intensified to keep the solid front that helped the Apollo E-gals win district games against DC and OCHS early in January.
Monday night, the girls battled the Lady Devils at the Sportscenter in a classic match in which the E-gals came out victorious.
It’s hard to stop a team in which every player is a menace to the other team. Apollo had big contributions from veteran players Latoshia “Boo” Lawrence, Natalie Hardesty, and G Murphy. Murphy had a huge deflection regulation. Hardesty had 11 points and Boo had 15 including a clutch 3-pointer to tie the game with 20 seconds to go in the first overtime session.
Lawerence propelled the E-gals into the second overtime and hit crucial free throws to seal the “W” for the team.
The win against Owensboro that night planted the E-gals in the number one seed position for the district tournament.
The E-gals are now pumped and prepared for the big district game against Daviess County tonight. Practices have consisted of working on offensive rebounds to get easy baskets, and getting into good shape in order to outrun rival teams. Fast breaks are seen in the E-gals’ quick pace game. This game plan may work against the taller Lady Panthers.
The team caused a lot of turnovers with their last meeting with Daviess County. They were able to contain key players. Tonight at the boy/girl doubleheader at AHS, everything will be left on the floor. Coach Powers says, “The game honors toughness.” The E-gals have this in the bag.
