Cheerleaders start long journey

A new competition squad is forming right before our very eyes. This years Apollo Cheerleading Competition squad is working and learning their routine for this years regional competition. Regionals will be held the first weekend in March at Grayson County High School.
Now let’s get a glimpse of the talented young ladies on this year’s awesome competition squad. Seniors: Amanda Walters, Andrea Roberson, Kelsey Stewart, and Kim Gregory. Juniors: Morgan Wilhoite. Sophomores: Tiffani English, Whitney Frey, Chelsea Boling. Freshman: Courtney Fogle, Anna Taylor, Lauren Clark, Kassey Hagan, Rachel Mcdivitt, Hayley Whitehead, Latanya Carter, and Jacey Stanley. The ladies that are not on the competition squad are alternates. This simply means that they will learn the routine and if someone gets hurt or suspended the next person jumps up and takes their place.
Regionals to the Apollo cheerleaders is like the Superbowl to the football players in the NFL. It is a tradition to Apollo to bring home the regional title and advance to the state level competition.
In 2003, the cheerleaders got treated unfairly and lost the regional title because their music was over a tenth of a second. Well, that is a very sensative subject so we wont go there. In 2004, they worked extra hard and kicked butt at the regional competition. The young ladies went to state and came out with an 8th place finsih.
The cheerleaders take this very seriously. It is like a the steak and bean bowl to the football players. Okay, well a littl e more serious than that, but you get my point.
Personally, I think students here at Apollo should come support the cheerleaders.Yes, that means come cheer on the Cheerleaders. They are not perfect but they are so close it, it is scary. Good Luck Ladies.
