Underrated flick worth time

Many films have delt with the dead contating the living. In White Noise, the technological séance of Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) is how the dead contact the living. You'd think in the movie, EVP would be more explained, however, it is only briefly touched upon , before the characters begin delving into the unknown.

Even with bad reviews, White Noise turned out better then expected. Michae l Keaton plays John Rivers, whose wife Anna (ChandraWest) disappears, believed to have drowned. In the weeks to followed, she is found dead. The incident is traumatic for John, who then turns to EVP specialist Raymond Price (Ian McNeice). John soon becomes obsessed with the possibility of contacting his wife again, almost completely forgetting his normal life, including his young son and successful job. He goes as far as to sell his furniture to buy more expensive equipment.

At first, John has no luck. That soon changes when spirits begin contacting him. Not all of the spirits are are friendly. John soon begins to deduce that some of the people aren’t dead, but will be. He begins a struggle to try and save people, although it is a bit fruitless. Upon hearing of an abducted mother, Rivers seeks the help of his dead wife to find the woman.

Not too much can be said about the plot without giving away the movie. A bit drawn out, those who are of a simple mind may turned off by the time taken to make sure many aspects of the film are covered.

Throughout the movie, you hear the annoying sound of static, which quickly gets boring. These minor flaws are masked easily by beautiful scenery, wonderful story line, and great character development.

If you can deal with a few nicely placed scare moments and a few shocking images and situations, White Noise is well worth the time and money.
