Martin Luther King’s dissapoinment

Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the most influencial leaders in the history of our great nation. His unwavering integrity and ability to stand steadfastly by his convictions lead to massive advancements in the civil rights movement. His non-violent approach to resisiting blatantly agressive racism throughout the south drew the attention of the entire world.
King firmly believed that every American citizen should have freedom to exercise the rights that are clearly stated in the constitution. He saw equality as a very real and atainable dream. And although he may not have been able to carry the movement as far as he would have liked to, he paved the way for African Americans and other minorities.
With King’s guidence the black community experienced the fullnes of unification. He inspired blacks to practice self motivation, to be disciplined, and to keep the faith.
The current condition of the African-American community would be a huge dissapoinment to the hailed civil rights activist. The staggering number of African Americans that are incarserated and being detained in criminal facilities across the country are a contradiction of everything the movement as well as King himself stood for. There is a loss of responsibilty among the black community today. The effects of this loss are apparent in the family structure of this culture.
Countless numbers of black children are born out of wedlock. The rocky realtionship between the parents’, if the relationship exists at all, will result in an unstable enviroment for the child. This continuing cylcle is a breading ground for unproductive indivuduals. Allowing this to continue will only cause further devastation.
King did not organize and successfully execute a 200,000 man march on Washington D.C. for blacks to complain about injust and prejudice today. He did not lead the Montgomery bus boycott in order for African Americans to evolve into a societal burden and King did not jeperdize and ultimatley lose his life for negores to be entertainment specialists.
We (Afrcan Americans) possess the resources to compensate for any wrongdoing inflicted upon us.We should be flooding college classrooms and the congress floor instead of parading around BET and attempting to dominate every field of athletics.
“Our nettlesome task is to discover how to organize our strength into compelling power.”
-Martin Luther King Jr.
