Principle of the Thing
At your finger tips!
We are most certainly living in an age when so many things seem to come our way so easily. I can remember when I was young that I was the remote control for my father, turning our old color TV that had those rabbit ears sitting on top to one of four channels. Nowadays, we have that remote control device in hand. I sometimes sit down to watch a show and never view any commercials because I channel surf. This addition irritates my family. I guess that’s why I am always left alone, sitting on the couch watching the tube. Eventually, the tube ends up watching me! J
We can even get in cars and program the seat to shift to where we feel it’s most comfortable while we drive or even as we sit in the passenger’s seat. Some of the real fancy cars have the remote entries. The only thing you need a key for is to start your vehicle, unless you have purchased one of the remote controls that will start your engine for you.
How about all of those video games that you are able to purchase nowadays and play on PlayStation and PlayStation 2, GameCube, N64, Sega Saturn and Dreamcast, and Xbox to mention a few. You can get many of these same games for computers. And, if you want to leave your room and still play a game, there’s Gameboy and Gameboy Advance. Okay, I must admit. I have a Tiger Woods game that I play on PlayStation 2 and one that I play on my computer at home. I swear I only play them to reduce stress. J
All of you have access to a computer here at AHS while many of you have access to one at home. You are certainly encouraged to use the technology we have here, but please be mindful that you must use it wisely and within the scope of the lessons in your respective classes. Yield not to the temptation of emailing one of your friends, or downloading inappropriate materials, or instant messaging someone. All of you are aware of the acceptable use policy for DCPS. Misuse of technology can lead to you losing privileges access privileges to almost everything on the computer. Let’s continue to make prudent choices.
March is not that far away. On March 23, in our gymnasium we will be hosting our annual “technology fair”. It is a wonderful day and I trust that some of you will be directly involved and all of you have the opportunity to view the exhibits. The public is also welcome from 10:00 until 2:00 that day.
