Snow has become my nemesis

It came in, like a rushing waterfall, whirling around like it owned the place. All of a sudden it hugged to roads, merely producing a white sheet of powder and then some. The cold windy whispers blew me for a loop. Soon everyone, including myself, caught up in this mess I’d like to call my nemesis.
This “nemesis” is the snow we recently received. We will probably receive more as winter takes its toll. To this day I’ve come to realize that driving in snow is my nightmare! It’s a horrifying experience that has left me shaken for life.
As crazy as it seems, it’s all true. My nemesis fed on my inability to stay straight on the pavement. It’s icy grip took hold of my tires, like it wanted me to surrender unwillingly. I began to ponder if I should have just given up and stay home. It just seemed to be a lose-lose situation.
But as I drove, I began to be more confident. I did not want to give up, even when I was stuck in a rutt. A little kitty litter, some cardboard, and a little elbow grease saved me. I felt as though I was in control after dumping more and more gasoline into my vehicle. I told my nemesis that it could try to bring me down, but I will fight until the end.
Road by road, slide by slide, I was determined to accomplish my goals...get to work on time! I didn’t live that far away, yet it seemed it would take eternity to get there. Swerving to and fro, this experience frightened me more and more. It was scary to see a car sliding right in front of me. Obviously, I didn’t get hit but it was unforgettable.
I learned one thing - how to avoid wrecks my nemesis tries to create. Never slam on the breaks. I know that sounds crazy, but it is true. Whether you’re blonde or brunette, it still can happen. I made that mistake and I almost hit another car. That’s a lesson definately to be learned.
Upon arriving at the last stoplight leading to my destination, I thought I was safe and free of worries, but I was WRONG! I was waiting for the light when this big salt truck tried to go straight where I was instead of going left where he was supposed to go. I couldn’t reverse, I couldn’t go forward. Icouldn’t go on either side of myself. Closing my eyes, I thought I was done for! Fortunately it missed me by inches, WHEW!! That was a close one. (For a minute there, I thought I had to change my pants due to wettness! Of course that was just nerves.)
Sliding into the parking lot was a hoot, especially when people didn’t know how to park. It took 15 to 20 minutes just to park. Mounds of snow and crooked cars didn’t help my situation any, so parking was a bit of a hassle.
I finally reached my destination through all the rutts, fishtales, and slides. I found it to be most rewarding to beat my nemesis. I found a way to actually beat it at its own game. Needless to say, salt is my new best friend. Laughing proudly, I agree that winter weather isn’t so bad after all, if you have the smarts and the right materials.
