Junior - Doug Denton

Junior point guard, Doug Denton, has been a vital player for the Eagles basketball team this entire season. His consistency in scoring, assists, and rebounding has been a key asset all year. Most games, Denton is the leading scorer and leader in assists as well. Although he stands at only 5’11” Denton secures an average of about six rebounds per game.
Since his freshman year, Denton has been on the varsity roster for basketball, and is a two-year letterman so far in his highschool career. Last year, he started nearly every game as a sophomore, a prestigous recognition for any underclassmen.
Denton was selected to 2nd team All-Region honors, as well as being voted onto the All-District team, due to his performance during the regular season.

Sophomore - Alyssa Mayes

Sophomore Alyssa Mayes, one of the best swimmers in the state, had a great season this year for Apollo. To finish up an excellent regular season performance, she swam well enough at the regional meet to qualify for the prestigous state swim meet, held in Lexington, Kentucky. At regionals, Mayes placed fourth in both individual events (50 freestyle and 200 individual IM). Since only the top two in each event automatically go to the next round, Mayes had to have one of the next 16 best times in the state, individually, to get a bid to the state meet.

Mayes was also recognized as the Messenger-Inquirer’s Athlete of the Week during swim season. Also a swimmer for Atlantis swim team and the Owensboro Marlins, Mayes will continue to get even better.
