ATM machines being placed throughout the school
by: Kendall Grider
Entertainment Editor

As of April 4, 2005, Apollo will be furnished with ATM machines. These machines will be a new thing for the school district to experiment with. Several schools across the country have experimented with this idea of ATM machines. With great praise, this will include Apollo.

Many schools have a bank located within the school. Like Apollo, these banks are issuing bank cards to be used only at school when they sign up for a checking or savings account. These cards will include a picture I.D. of the student as well as the account number.

When these cards are used, there will be a $1.00 set minimum withdrawal and a $50.00 maximum withdrawal. Unlike machines out of school, these machines will know how much a student has in their account, and wont allow them to overdraw their account. Each transaction costs only $0.25 for Eagle High Trust cardholders.
Many students may wonder if they can use the ATM machines even if they don’t have a card issued from Eagle High Trust. These machines can be used by other cards. However, there will be a $2.00 transaction fee included and taken out of that account.
This $2.00 surcharge and the $0.25 surcharge will benefit to the senior class. If the projected amount of ATM machines occur, the seniors will be able to have a big party at several different places. The surcharges will be used to rent out four different places. These places will include: a pool hall, a bowling alley, the YMCA, and Atlantis. Seniors will be able to have a whole school day to stay at one all day, or go from one to another each period. This party would not be able to happen, however, without the help of these transactions.

Inside the machines will include small cameras that operate 24 hours a day. This will be helpful in watching any transactions being done.
There will be three ATM machines placed throughout the school. Two ATM machines will be placed in the commons area where the old pay phones used to be. The last machine will be placed in the gym lobby taking place of one of the coke machines. The reason for the ATM machine in the gym lobby is the sporting events that take place in the gym. If parents attending an event need money, they have the option of using the ATM.
Teachers as well have an opportunity of participating. They can also sign up for an account at Eagle High Trust. If not, they are still able to use the machines as well.
Many faculty members at other participating schools agree that it is a good idea for teachers and students to have this. Not only does it help students get money when they need it, but it helps studentsto act responsible and learn how to manage money early on in life.

Hopefully, there won’t be any students taking advantage of these ATM machines. The school is spending the money to make things more convenient for its students, teachers, and parents. Remember, this is only an experiment. These machines can be taken away at any time. So the school is urging students to be aware of the consequences from misuse of these ATM machines. There will be severe consequences that involve DMs, referals, ALC, and possible expulsion if necessary. Students are required to act maturely towards this experiment. If it goes well, the school may even keep them.
