Do you have it in you to be the Eagle?
by: Kim Gregory, Senior Editor

Have you saw a big and tall brown, big eyed, yellow beak and feet monster walking around at sports events here at Apollo? So do you know who it it? Duh! The Apollo mascot. The famous mascot of Apollo High School is the Eagle. So in reality, what is his purpose? Why is he here? Well one thing for sure about the Eagle is he brings lots of spirit to Apollo.

The Apollo Eagle brings spirit and excitment to all the games and co-circular activites. The Eagle is even known to attend pep rally’s and other academic rally’s such as Eagle Fest.
Throughout the years, the female athletic teams have incorporated the Eagle in a unique, but different way. They transform the original “Eagle” to “E-Gals.” This way they are still keeping the Eagle mascot, but it is more feminine for the girls athletic teams. For the boys athletic teams, they keep the original mascot name “Eagles.”

The Eagle’s top priority is to keep the students, fans, and team pumped up for the game. The Eagle usually acts silly by doing flips and cheering along with the cheerleaders. Throughout the games and events the Eagle stays very active and is always up on his feet, being a number one fan of Apollo sports.

So Apollo students, do you have it in you to be the next famous Apollo Eagle? As you can see the Eagle has a lot of school pride, yet he respects other teams by showing good sportsmanship. If you are interested in being the Eagle mascot for the 2004-2005 basketball season, please contact Nancy Schmeal, varsity cheerleading coach.

The Apollo Eagle mascot is not just any school mascot, he is a symbol of pride to Apollo High School. He plays a major role in the Eagle Family.
