Head to Head

Republican or Democrat the Final Showdown

Amanda "Four More Year's" Walters

What a wonderful feeling to know that we have an excellent president in office again for the next four years. Yes, that is right I am talking about President George W. Bush. Eric will be writing about the Democratic side.

John Kerry basically gave up on Wednesday because he came to realize that President Bush is the man. The reason it took so long was because in all exit polls, Kerry was winning this election. But then Wednesday around Second period Kerry concedede the election to W.

Bush has many plans for the next four years. Some of his future plans include, continuing the war against terror, and reforming taxes and social security. This simply means that he is going to make these programs better for the future generations. When asked if he had felt freer earning a second term President Bush stated “I don’t think the press will let me be too free…I earned capital in campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it.” Also Bush states “We must lead on Social Security because the system is not going to be whole for our children and grandchildren.” This is very true because when the baby boomers retire all the younger people will be paying for the baby busters. In return, young people will hardly get any money, when they retire.
President Bush had 59,458,641 votes where as Kerry had 55,949,384. Kerry was close, but not close enough. Bush won all the states in the south, west and part of the North West. Kerry won the rest and New Mexico and Iowa were undecided. Many people may be of the opinion that since Bush won the south, he is racist. That is not true. They are a lot more things said that are just rumors. But we all know how rumors are, if you read my last article you would understand.

I got to vote this year and it was really exciting. Of course I voted for George W. Bush. He is going to make this economy get out of its little slump. In my opinion i think that the war on terrorism is an excellent proposition. I feel safe within this country although thier are still terrorist out there wanting to destroy our country. Also with the war going on prices have gone up and I admit that the economy has gone down hill. But Bush is going to come through and it is going to get back on track.

Bush for president wants to make a lot of changes in the states. I support his morals and beliefs. He is a dedicated Christian and is not for abortion.

Kerry has some good morals. I mean he did call and tell Bush congrats after dropping out of the election. Wait a minute... is that the same wishy washiness that we saw during the debates? He’s for war, he’s not: He’s running for president, he drops out. That did take some guts, though, for him to congratulate Bush on what appeared to be a landslide victory. We didn’t need a quitter for president anyway. Sorry all you democrats out there. Don’t hate me for saying all this stuff.

Now that I got that off my chest I feel a whole lot better. Be cautious as you read Eric’s democratic article. Bush is awesome and Emma Hunt and myself are more than happy that he has another four years in the Oval Office.

Eric "Loosen the Grip" Pinkston

Well, I guess some people might find it weird that I am a member of ROTC and yet I’m the one on the Democratic side of this argument. Don’t get me wrong, guys, because I love this country. I just don’t like its current president.

Given the chance, I would have voted for Senator Kerry. I’m a liberal, much like him. I believe the government shouldn’t interfere with the people’s private lives. Living here, “liberal” is a naughty word that children are taught not to say. The Left is always wrong in this area of the nation: Because they want equal rights for homosexuals, because they want a woman to have the right to her own body, or because they want to loosen the grip of a single religion on our entire system of government.

Bush claims to be “a uniter, not a divider”, yet I’ve never seen the nation so divided. Suddenly we aren’t just Americans anymore. We’re liberal or conservative, pro-life or pro-choice, Tweedledum or Tweedledee. The opinion split has awakened many “debaters” to begin thinking of everything as black or white, much like Dubya does. Uniter indeed.

I’m not saying Sen. Kerry would have been any better as a “uniter”, though. To be honest I didn’t really like either of the two candidates in this last election. I would have picked Kerry over Bush, but with the election fiasco that happened in 2000, I was just glad to know the outcome.

The spin doctors on the Right are probably going to use Kerry’s decision to concede as an example of his “weakness”. So... they would rather have more election drama? I know I wouldn’t. I’d already had enough of it by November 2nd. So when Kerry announced his concession, even though I wanted him to win, I could not help but feel good. It was a noble act of him to give up the victory in Ohio, and it just may have saved the American electoral system altogether.

Well, I’ve sort of gotten off topic. My main subject here was supposed to be something like “Why are liberals so bad?” I don’t see why giving other people the rights they deserve to have would affect anyone else. Personally I’m a non-Christian. The bible-thumping conservatives that seem to make up the bulk of the population here make me raise an eyebrow. Not everybody follows the same religion.

Again I don’t mean to seem like I’m ranting and raving. I did want John Kerry to win the election, but America is still America no matter who’s in charge. If Bush’s supporters play the “You can’t love America without loving its leaders” card, remind them of the Watergate scandal .. or maybe even the pre-Revolutionary War period. If we had always obeyed the people in power, the United States might still be a colony of England.

I’ve finally said enough so I will wrap this up quickly. No offense to the Christians reading this, I’m sure they are not bad people. Unfortunately, there are some bad people that represent that religion. Then again, that’s why the Al Quaeda exist too.
Kerry’s loss was sad, to me, but America’s still America. I will always love it.
