Vienna waits for you

"Vienna" by Billy Joel

Slow down, you crazy child.
You’re so ambitious for a juvenile.
But then if you’re so smart, tell me why are you still so afraid?
Where’s the fire? What’s the hurry about?
You better cool it off before you burn it out.
You got so much to do and only so many hours in a day.

But you know that when the truth is told
That you can get what you want or you can just get old?
You’re gonna kick off before you even get halfway through.
When will you realize Vienna waits for you?

Slow down, you’re doing fine.
You can’t be everything you wanna be before your time,
Although it’s so romantic on the borderline tonight.
Too bad, but it’s the life you lead.
You’re so ahead of yourself that you forgot what you need.
Though you can see when you’re wrong,
You know, you can’t always see when you’re right.

You’ve got your passion. You’ve got your pride,
But don’t you know that only fools are satisfied?
Dream on, but don’t imagine they’ll all come true.
When will you realize Vienna waits for you?

Slow down, you crazy child.
Take the phone off the hook and disappear for a while.
It’s all right you can afford to lose a day or two.
When will you realize Vienna waits for you?

It's November 5th, 2004 and it's my 18th birthday. Exactly at 12:00 am I run outside and start doing my hip poppin', booty shakin', leg twistin', and of course bobbled head birthday dance. My parents already set their alarm for that time, because they know I would most likely do something stupid as soon as I turn 18 years old. But, now I look back on being underage in all ways. It wasn't so bad being under 18 years old.

I miss playing on the playground at Mcdonald's and coming home from school during elementary school and watching Mr. Roger's Nieghborhood. All these memories seem just to sink in my head, and I know I will never get the chance to do them again and still have that same innocent feeling. Plus, Mr. Roger's died and ever since I haven't had the strength to watch it.

Doesn't everyone just sit and realize how old they're getting sometimes when they're my age? I miss my childhood and everyone who played a part in it. My street and the conjoining street (Mill Str.) used to be where everyone would hang out and have fun. Most of those people I haven't seen in years, and some I don't see but a couple times a month or every other month. We don't really have anything in common anymore. Weird.

My point is that if you look at these lyrics to the left of me it's symbolic of someone's life. You want to grow up so much when your younger and have tons of responsibility and freedom and then you look back when you're the age you thought you wanted to be and wished that you could be 5 years old all over again. Those moments getting lost in fake adventures in you're back yard are over. Now if you did them people would just call the cops on you and send you to the mentally insane ward. (and you certainly can't do it in nothing but your underwear either.)

So hear me out...take a load off from everything and just think sometimes about what you're doing. Vienna is not just a town. it's a state of mind. I perferr not to rush in to Vienna, and plan on living young at heart till I am about 103 and then die. Just realize that Vienna waits for you till you're ready to take it all in.
